This DonateLife Week, we're sharing Junior Mafi's incredible story of hope, gratitude and the life-changing impact of organ donation.

One year after receiving a heart and double lung transplant at St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney Junior returned to thank the team who cared for him throughout his 26-year journey.

A little rain wasn't going to stop us from celebrating NAIDOC Week 2026.

Across the week, staff, patients, volunteers and community members came together for a vibrant program of events recognising and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and contributions.

We began with a Flag Raising Ceremony and Welcome to Country, where Olivia and Neenan delivered a beautiful performance of We Are Australian, including parts of the song in the Yawuru language. Throughout the week, staff also enjoyed powerful performances by the DJINAMA Dancers, thought-provoking clinical discussions, and the 50 Years of Deadly Storytelling & Artwork Exhibition.

Today, the celebrations concluded with a Smoking Ceremony and Community BBQ, featuring a vibrant performance by the Kebi Kub Eastern Island Dancers from the Torres Strait. Each event provided an opportunity to deepen our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and celebrate the rich diversity of our community.

These gatherings reminded us of the importance of reconciliation, cultural understanding and the enduring strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

A heartfelt thank you to Siupeli Haukoloa-Paea, the St Vincent’s Sydney Reconciliation Events Committee, the St Vincent's Hospital Homeless Health Service, and everyone who contributed their time, energy and expertise to making the week such a success.

We're proud to share a few moments from the celebrations.

We’re proud to celebrate the official opening of the new Kosher Pantry at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney. A dedicated space providing Jewish patients, families and visitors with 24/7 access to kosher food, prayer books and essential religious items.

For people experiencing illness, uncertainty or supporting a loved one in hospital, maintaining cultural and faith-based practices can provide an important source of comfort, connection and dignity. The Kosher Pantry helps make that possible.

This initiative was made possible through a partnership between St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, Jewish House and Abrahams Tent, supported by seed funding through the St Vincent’s Curran Foundation Endowment Grants Program.

We were honoured to officially open the pantry alongside NSW Minister for Health and Regional Health, the Hon. Ryan Park MP, NSW Health Secretary Susan Pearce AM, representatives from Jewish House and Abrahams Tent, Anna McFadgen, CEO of St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney and the St Vincent’s Curran Foundation.

Last week, bright pops of colour peeked out beneath scrubs in support of Crazysocks4docs. 💜

The day is all about raising awareness and encouraging real action around mental health for doctors and health practitioners while helping to break down stigma.

Because mental health matters to everyone, and conversations should feel safe, open and normalised every day.
