Celebrating our aged care heroes! ❤

Here’s a glimpse of how teams at Gill Waminda, Weeroona, Macquarie Lodge and Maybanke celebrated Aged Care Employee Day last week.

Staff were recognised with special lunches, a private coffee van, fun dress-up activities, heartfelt presentations and video messages from residents and colleagues. Highlights included a pajama party at Gill Waminda, character and superhero costumes at Macquarie Lodge, and special lunches together at Weeroona and Maybanke.

Staff were also invited to nominate colleagues for our Going Above and Beyond Awards, with some centres recognising long-serving team members for their dedication and service.

Congratulations to all our award recipients and thank you to every member of our incredible aged care team. You make every moment count.

Friendship is something worth celebrating every day ❤️

To mark Friendship Day on 30 July, communities across Salvos Aged Care came together to celebrate the meaningful connections that enrich our lives.

For the past four years, Macquarie Lodge has welcomed friends from Maybanke and Weeroona for a special day of friendship and fun. This year, everyone enjoyed a delightful high tea, created friendship bracelets for one another and exchanged heartfelt friendship cards filled with kind messages. Staff also lovingly prepared thoughtful goodie bags to help everyone remember the day.

At Gill Waminda, the celebration was an opportunity to embrace and share the many cultures that make up the community. Staff shared their cultural backgrounds, performed traditional displays and brought along delicious dishes from their respective countries. Of course, friendship bracelets were also made and exchanged, adding an extra touch of connection and joy.

Here's to the friendships that bring us together and make every day brighter ✨

Meet Tom 👋 Tom is a resident at James Barker House and a valued member of our community.

Always looking for ways to stay active and lend a hand, Tom regularly supports the maintenance team and helps the Lifestyle team with special events around the Centre.

Gardening is one of Tom's greatest passions, and he takes great pride in growing vegetables 🪴 He generously shares his harvest with staff and fellow residents, reflecting the strong sense of community that makes James Barker House feel like home.

Tom is also an animal lover and cares for the Centre's four chickens and Bruce the rooster, who he named after a close friend 🐓 His latest project is nurturing a batch of eggs as he eagerly awaits the arrival of some baby chicks! 🐣 Watching them grow has become a source of joy not only for Tom, but also for fellow residents and staff who enjoy sharing in his enthusiasm.

Tom's story is a wonderful example of how meaningful roles, hobbies and responsibilities can foster wellbeing, independence and a sense of purpose. His positive attitude, generosity and willingness to help others have made a lasting impact on the James Barker House community, and we're proud to have him as part of it. ️

There’s something a little magical about enjoying all the festivities of Christmas in winter, along with the laughter, cheer and special moments shared together🎄❄️

Across our aged care centres, we embraced the spirit of Christmas with Christmas in July celebrations. From a celebratory lunch at Bistro By The Dam at Seaforth Gardens and festive decorations at Mac Lodge, to a Christmas-themed lunch and creative activities at Montrose, plus a wonderful high tea, ham and turkey dinner and home-baked festive treats at Weeroona, there was plenty of joy to go around.

Now for the countdown to December! ❤️

Tasty treats galore at Gill Waminda! 😋

Recently, we've been busy in the kitchen baking blueberry muffins and cooking up mini Hawaiian pizzas and corn fritters.

These recipes are simple to make, delicious to enjoy and the perfect snack to share with friends. From sweet to savoury, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

A wonderful morning at the beautiful Auburn Botanic Gardens 🌿🌸🎋

At Weeroona, we boarded the bus and set off to explore everything the gardens had to offer. From the iconic red bridge and tranquil bamboo groves to the stunning array of flowers and colourful koi fish gliding through crystal-clear ponds, there was no shortage of sights to take in. Every turn was picture perfect ✨

We wandered through the gardens, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere, taking in the fragrant blooms and listening to the gentle trickle of the streams. The morning was perfectly topped off with a lovely picnic lunch shared among friends.

A beautiful day of nature, connection and treasured memories ❤

With the year more than halfway through, we're reflecting on some of the wonderful activities and moments shared so far.

Earlier this year, NDIS participants at James Barker House enjoyed a day out at Wyndham Park, led by Support Worker Damini. The group spent time outdoors, shared a BBQ and took part in some fun games together.

Damini organised two activities for everyone to enjoy: a colour-based concentration game and a fast-paced ball game where you had to pass the ball before the music stopped. The excitement built as the competition narrowed down to two finalists, with one participant emerging as the winner amid plenty of laughter and positive energy.

A fantastic day filled with connection, fun, and friendly competition.
