It might not seem like it, but a permanent walkway can be an important part of a fall protection system. As well as adding protection against damage or deformity for your work area.

On the HSE blog this week, our team takes a look at the two main types of walkway you can have installed, what their relative advantages are and how they can add value to your height safety system.

A fall protection system only protects if it is used in the correct manner.

When it comes to roof anchor systems, workers need to make sure they are connecting to the correct anchor in the correct order. In doing so, they can use fall restraint technique to mitigate the risk of a fall occurring in the first place.

What does that mean? This guide is here to explain: https://heightsafety.net/news/using-a-roof-anchor-fall-protection-system/

When using a anchor-based fall protection system it is important to make sure that your rigging does not overload an anchor.

This can occur mainly when diverting. Mitigating this is as easy as applying a re-anchoring technique to reduce the potential load should a fall occur.

Read up more on how it all works here: https://heightsafety.net/news/diversion-anchors-and-re-anchoring-techniques/

Diversion anchors and re-anchoring are two important parts of using common fall protection systems.

A rope line and carabiners is the most effective way to use a roof anchor fall protection system.

But what if you have a twin-tail lanyard? How would that work?

If you flick through you will find out.

A word of warning though - this technique is only compliant as long as the length of your lanyard's tail and the anchor point layout is such that the user remains within the bounds of fall restraint technique. Which is just another reason why an adjustable rope line is the way to go.
