I just want to let you know that if you are in the habit of growing and challenging your muscles you are doing a really good job ❤️

Not only are you likely feeling better, stronger and more confident but you are actually growing and training tiny mitochondria that power up your muscles and body every time you train.

These mitochondria help to support your metabolic health which helps you to keep balanced even as your body changes with age and when our hormones change too.

So I just wanted to let you know if you are using, growing and challenging your muscles it’s one of the best ways to support your metabolism and health stepping into your next decade ✌️

I was chatting with a patient today about why doing “all the right things” wasn’t making her feel better.

She was restricting her eating, training hard and pushing through but her body wasn’t responding the way she had hoped. Her body was asking for more.. more food, more recovery and more safety.

This is something I wish more women understood.

Women are not small men.

A woman’s body is geared towards safety. A man’s body is more resilient to challenge without the same consequences.

This is why the same advice around fasting, fuelling, training and recovery can create very different outcomes.

Women are not less capable of handling stress. But our bodies often respond best when challenge is backed by enough energy, nourishment and recovery.

Your body doesn’t need less ambition. It needs enough safety to rise to the challenge.

If you asked me what I’m most interested in at the moment as a women’s health naturopath it’s Muscle Metabolism and Mitochondria.

As women move towards mid life these three things become increasingly important to maintain. Not just for maintaining weight or bone health as we would usually think but sleep, mood, energy and so much more.

Stop treating acne as something happening only on the surface.

Skin is responsive and it’s a reflection of what’s happening internally, sensitivity to shifts in hormones, metabolism, inflammation, stress and nourishment. Clearer skin begins with understanding the whole body, not simply finding a stronger product.

One of the most common shifts I recommend in clinic is becoming more intentional about snacks especially for those women approaching or in their 40’s.

I recommend meal -> snack -> meal -> snack -> meal ->snack.

Why you may ask?

A balanced snack can bridge long gaps between meals, which supports steadier blood glucose and therefore steadier cortisol. It also gives our microbes lots of diversity and most importantly regular eating sends a message to your body that you are safe which is key to stable energy, weight and sleep in your 40’s.

Keep it simple: pair fats with something fresh and mix it up every now and then.

Over the past year, I’ve found myself recommending CGMs more and more in clinic.

Not because everyone needs one. And not because they’re just for diabetes.

It’s because they show me what a single blood test can’t.

A CGM allows us to see how your body responds to food, stress, sleep, exercise alcohol and hormones in real life. It helps uncover patterns, personalise nutrition and better understand what’s driving symptoms.

One of the biggest takeaways? There is no “perfect” meal. Our glucose responses are incredibly individual—and even your own response can change from one day to the next.

A CGM isn’t a replacement for blood tests, and it doesn’t measure insulin. It’s another piece of the puzzle that helps me provide more personalised care ✌️

I’ve just spent two days at a conference immersed in the latest research and clinical conversations around women’s hormones, fertility, perimenopause, metabolism and healthy ageing and have come back reinvigorated to help support my patients.

👉 The female body is far more interconnected than we often appreciate in standard care 👈

My role is to connect the patterns, understand the bigger picture, and help you make sense of what your body is telling you.

If you’ve ever been told your concerns are “just part of getting older” or “within normal range so nothing to worry about,” I want you to know there is often more to explore.

Better care starts with better questions and a more complete understanding of you.
