We welcome nominations from current financial ASHM members with diverse skills and experience, who are passionate about contributing to ASHM’s strategic direction and governance.

With five Board positions available - including at least one position reserved for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person - this is an opportunity to help shape the future of our organisation and the work we do.

HIV Unwrapped 3.0 brought fashion, storytelling and HIV awareness to the runway at . More than 30 garments designed in collaboration with HIV scientists showcased the stories, advocacy, and science connected to HIV, all while challenging stigma and building greater understanding.

The transmission of HIV, hepatitis B, and syphilis from parent to child is preventable. Yet across Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Timor-Leste, barriers to testing and treatment in antenatal healthcare means that babies are being born with these preventable conditions every day. Recent estimates indicate that in 2024 in PNG, 2,700 infants were newly infected with HIV - equivalent to seven babies per day.

Since 2022, the Supporting Triple Elimination in PNG and Timor-Leste (STEPT) project has been supporting locally-led efforts towards eliminating parent-to-child transmission of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B.

STEPT is delivered in partnership between ASHM, Maluk Timor, Catholic Church Health Services PNG, Madang Provincial Health Authority, Milne Bay Provincial Health Authority, Papua New Guinea National Department of Health,
and Timor-Leste Ministry of Health (Palácio das Cinzas). STEPT is supported by the Australian Government through the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) and ASHM Members.

Meet Sangita!👋🎉

Sangita has recently joined ASHM as our Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion Advisor, working across the organisation to help ensure the needs of marginalised populations are considered in our work 💜🌏

She describes herself as adaptable, curious and silly, and loves finding creative ways to tackle problems in challenging contexts.

Outside of work, you’ll find Sangita hanging out with her two mad puppos 🐶🐶, enjoying Chinese cuisine or taking the karaoke mic for a rendition of Sweet Child O’ Mine! 🍜🎤

Strengthening HIV care across the Asia-Pacific 🌏🩺
ASHM recently joined colleagues from Singapore and Sri Lanka in Colombo to deliver the Asia Pacific HIV Course, with more than 50 doctors from across Sri Lanka taking part.
The training focused on HIV prevention, testing, care and management - helping strengthen knowledge, skills and capacity to support people living with and at risk of HIV across the region.

Call For Speakers! 📢🎤

We’re looking for clinicians, researchers, community representatives, advocates and other professionals who could contribute as panellists, chairs and lived experience contributors for our upcoming LGBTIQA+ Cancer Care Education Series.

Each session will run live online from 6:30pm - 7:30pm (AEST) on the first Tuesday of the month and will feature 3–4 panellists and a chair, with facilitated discussion and audience Q&A. Panellists will receive a $150 honorarium per session.

What an incredible four days of learning, collaboration and connection at the Australasian HIV&AIDS and Sexual and Reproductive Health Conferences 2026!

Together, we welcomed 980 delegates, delivered 72 sessions, showcased 243 research posters and supported the next generation of leaders through 81 scholarships.

From inspiring keynote presentations and cutting-edge research to powerful lived experience voices and practical discussions, this year’s conferences highlighted both the progress being made across HIV, sexual and reproductive health and the work that still lies ahead.

A special thank you to our conveners Prof Jason Ong, Dr Jillian Lau, Catherine Bateman and Prof Catriona Bradshaw for their vision, leadership and dedication in shaping such an outstanding program.

We're also deeply grateful to our major supporters
ViiV Healthcare, Gilead Sciences, and Australian Centre for Disease Control, whose ongoing support helps us share evidence, strengthen partnerships and drive better health outcomes across the region.
