For Allied Health Professions Day, we are shining a spotlight on our wonderful Occupational Therapist, Tracey! 🎉

Tracey recently worked alongside our fundraising partner, the .foundation, to secure a fantastic $12,979 James N Kirby Foundation Grant for the AYAH sensory program.

Combined with a generous $25,000 donation from Matt and Grace Kossatz, these funds will completely transform our sensory space to better cater to all abilities and needs.

Thank you, Tracey, for your dedication, and thank you to our incredible partners for making this possible!

Happy Allied Health Professions Day!

As Australia’s first dedicated service to adolescents and young adults with life limiting conditions, AYAH has assembled a team of Allied Health clinicians dedicated to providing personalised support for patients and families.

With collaboration at the heart of our practice, our art, physio, music, speech pathology, dietetics and occupation therapies - along with psychology and social work - the team never knows what the day ahead will hold.

From joint art and physiotherapy sessions to occupational and social work sessions, gardening or an outing to the city, our team finds creative ways to meet the biological, psychological, and social therapeutic needs of our patients.

Thank you to our increadible team! 🙌

A moment for our wonderful volunteers đź’›

Whether it’s making a special wish come true, decorating the hospice, playing music, gardening, keeping families company, or taking patients out on adventures - we see you and we appreciate you.

We simply could not do what we do without your warmth, time, and dedication.

Thank you for everything you bring to our community every single day.

đź’ś Pain isn't always what we can see.

This World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, we're recognising the many forms of pain experienced by people living with a life-limiting illness.

Pain can be physical, but it can also be psychological, social and spiritual. Feelings of fear, anxiety, loneliness, grief, loss of independence, financial stress, or questions about meaning and purpose can all contribute to a person's suffering.

At AYAH, our staff understand that caring for someone means caring for the whole person. Every day, they recognise and respond to these different experiences of pain with compassion, expertise and person-centred care.

Alongside our clinical teams, volunteers help ease some of the non-physical aspects of pain through connection, companionship and simply being present. A conversation, a shared moment, or a listening ear can help someone feel less alone.

Because while not all pain is visible, every person's experience matters.

đź’ś Thank you to our staff and volunteers who help bring comfort, dignity and connection to those in their care.

We were thrilled to be invited to 's Spirit to Cure event recently to share the work we do with participants.

Our Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Sophia, presented on the night and gratefully accepted a very generous $10,000 cheque. These vital funds will directly support our areas of greatest need at the AYAH.

Thank you so much to Tour de Cure and for your ongoing support, partnership, and dedication to our young people and families. 🌟

When 25-year-old Shane stayed with us at the AYAH, his goals were simple: a seafood platter, pancakes, and days filled with moments that mattered. Living with Grade 4 Medulloblastoma since 2015, Shane spent 143 days with us surrounded by the things he loved - from visits to Featherdale Wildlife Park and bedside puppies; to hatching chicks and creating cherished keepsakes with our art and music therapy team.

We were deeply honoured when Shane’s medical oncologist, Dr Ganes Pranavan, and his charity, Paalam: The Bridge to Humanity, chose to give back to the AYAH.

On Sunday 27 September, Paalam hosted an unforgettable evening of art, music, dance, and fashion at the Pioneer Theatre in Castle Hill, with the AYAH as a proud beneficiary. Our Palliative Care Staff Specialist, Dr Abbie Franklin, attended to represent our service and share Shane's moving story.

Thank you to Dr Ganes, the Paalam team, and every guest for a wonderful evening and for honouring Shane’s legacy so beautifully. 💙

Grief after the death of a child can feel isolating, even among those who love you. Recently, the AYAH held its very first Bereaved Mothers' Retreat centered around a powerful theme: connection.

For one restorative weekend, these mothers shared meals, ceramics, yoga, and quiet conversation with women who needed no explanation.

This meaningful weekend was made possible by an incredible network of supporters and partners:

Major Sponsor:

Retreat Partners: , .manly, , (Night at the Barracks), Brookvale, , , and Yoga (Grief-Informed Yoga Specialist).

We also want to recognise our dedicated AYAH staff -Anna, Hayley, Megan, Dave, Tayia, Sarah, Phil, Peng, Pradeep, and Laura -who gave their time and care to support the planning and ex*****on of the weekend.

Above all, thank you to the mothers who put their trust in us and joined us for this special weekend. 🕊️"

Today is Childhood Dementia Awareness Day.

The AYAH is proud to support the "We Can't Wait" campaign, and we encourage you to share this message and donate if you can.

Angelina spent a significant amount of time at the AYAH and tragically died from Lafora Disease, a form of Childhood Dementia at 21 years old.

We have cared for families deeply impacted by various forms of Childhood Dementia, and we strive to raise vital awareness, help fund crucial research, and support other families facing this journey.
