Today we begin another journey together.

Every time I teach this masterclass, I'm reminded how much there still is to discover about herbs. After all these years in practice, they continue to surprise me, and that's a gift I never take for granted.

Today I'll be welcoming another group of practitioners and students, and I'm looking forward to sharing six weeks of learning, observation and conversation together. We'll spend time exploring the personalities of more than fifty herbs, the wisdom of person pictures, constitutional prescribing, drop dosing and many of the traditional teachings I was fortunate enough to receive while training with Dorothy Hall.

Teaching has always been one of the great joys of my work. Every group brings thoughtful questions, different experiences and fresh perspectives, and I know I'll learn something along the way as well.

To everyone joining me today, thank you for choosing to be part of this journey. I hope you leave not only with new knowledge, but with a deeper appreciation for the remarkable relationship between people and plants.

I'm looking forward to seeing you very soon.

Tomorrow we begin another round of The Heart & Art of Traditional Herbal Medicine, and I’m feeling very grateful to be welcoming a new group of practitioners and students into this work.

Over the coming six weeks, we’ll explore more than 50 herbs and their person pictures, along with iris signs, associated sun signs and the art of drop dosing. We’ll also spend time with many of the traditional philosophies I was fortunate to learn while training with Dorothy Hall, bringing them into conversation with the experience I’ve gathered through 23 years of clinical practice.

Although I’ve taught this masterclass many times, every group brings its own questions, insights and experiences, which means the course is never quite the same twice. That shared learning is one of the things I enjoy most about teaching.

To everyone who has already enrolled, I’m looking forward to meeting you tomorrow and beginning this journey together.

There is still time to join us, and recordings will be available for anyone who cannot attend each session live.

Over the next couple of days, I'll be putting the finishing touches on my notes, gathering together the books I'll be referring to and preparing to welcome another group into *The Heart & Art of Traditional Herbal Medicine*.

I've taught this masterclass many times now, yet I still feel the same sense of anticipation before we begin. Every group brings different questions, experiences and conversations, and that is part of what makes teaching such a privilege.

For six weeks we'll spend time exploring herbs through person pictures, constitutional prescribing, iris signs and the traditional philosophies I was fortunate enough to learn while training with Dorothy Hall. More than anything, I hope it becomes a space where people feel inspired to look at herbs and the people they care for with fresh eyes.

To everyone who has already enrolled, I look forward to meeting you very soon.

If you've been quietly thinking about joining us, there is still time before we begin on Tuesday.

People sometimes ask whether, after all these years in practice, I still find myself returning to Dorothy Hall's teachings. The answer is yes.

Not because I think herbal medicine should stand still, but because I believe some principles never lose their value.

Dorothy encouraged us to look beyond symptoms and spend time observing the person sitting in front of us. She taught us to notice constitution, temperament, vitality and pattern, and to appreciate that herbs have personalities and affinities just as people do.

Over the years I've continued to deepen my own understanding through clinical practice, but I still find wisdom in those traditional observations. They remind me that good herbal prescribing is not simply about choosing the right herb for a condition. It is about understanding the relationship between the herb and the person who needs it.

I think that way of practising is just as relevant today as it was when I first trained with Dorothy. It sits comfortably alongside modern research and clinical evidence, adding another layer of understanding that helps us see our patients more completely.

That is why these teachings remain at the heart of this masterclass and why I continue to share them with practitioners curious to explore the traditions of herbal medicine.

Our next group gathers on 14 July, and there is still time to join us if this way of practising resonates with you.

When people ask me what I hope they will take away from this masterclass, my answer is rarely about learning more herbs.

Of course we'll spend six weeks exploring person pictures, constitutional prescribing, iris signs, drop dosing and many of Dorothy Hall's teachings. But what I hope stays with people long after the course has finished is something much quieter.

I hope they begin to observe differently. I hope they become more curious about the person sitting in front of them.

I hope the herbs become more than names in a materia medica and instead become familiar companions with their own stories, personalities and affinities.

If that happens, then I feel the course has done what it was meant to do.

We're almost ready to gather for another six weeks together, and I'm very much looking forward to meeting everyone who has chosen to join us.

There is still time to enrol before we begin on 14 July.

People sometimes ask me whether I ever tire of teaching the same masterclass.

The answer is no.

Although the course framework remains much the same, every group is different. The conversations are different, the questions are different, and each practitioner brings their own experience and curiosity to our time together.

I always learn something as well.

One of the great joys of teaching is watching people begin to look at herbs differently. There is often a moment when a herb they've known for years suddenly comes alive in a new way, or when they begin recognising person pictures in their own patients. Those moments never lose their magic.

As we prepare to begin the thirteenth round of *The Heart & Art of Traditional Herbal Medicine*, I'm feeling grateful that this work continues to find people who are curious about the traditions of herbal medicine and want to deepen their practice.

Thank you to everyone who has joined me over the years, and to those who will be gathering with us next week.

In just one week, I'll be welcoming another group of practitioners and herbal medicine students into The Heart & Art of Traditional Herbal Medicine.

Every time I run this masterclass, I'm reminded that what makes it so special isn't simply the information we cover. It's the conversations, the questions, the shared observations and the way people begin to see both herbs and their patients through a different lens.

Over six weeks, we'll explore person pictures, constitutional prescribing, iris signs, drop dosing and many of the traditional philosophies that I was fortunate enough to learn while training with Dorothy Hall, alongside the insights I've gathered through more than twenty three years in clinical practice.

Whether you're a student looking to deepen your understanding or a practitioner wanting to reconnect with the traditional heart of herbal medicine, I'd love to have you join us.

There is still time to enrol before we begin on 14 July.

I look forward to gathering with you.

One of the things that has changed most over my years in practice is that I no longer feel the need to rush to find the "right" herb.

Instead, I've learnt to slow down and spend more time getting to know the person sitting in front of me. The herbs rarely reveal themselves through a checklist of symptoms alone. More often, they begin to make sense when we understand the person's constitution, temperament, strengths and vulnerabilities, and the patterns that have brought them to where they are.

Training with Dorothy Hall introduced me to a way of observing people that has stayed with me throughout my clinical practice. She encouraged us to look beyond the obvious and to appreciate the relationship between the herb and the person, not simply the herb and the condition.

That way of thinking has deepened over the years as I've worked with patients, and it remains at the heart of what I share in *The Heart & Art of Traditional Herbal Medicine*. My hope is that everyone who joins the course comes away not only with new knowledge but also with greater confidence in observing, listening and prescribing in a way that feels thoughtful, individual and true to the traditions of herbal medicine.

When I first began teaching this masterclass, I hoped people would leave with a deeper understanding of herbs. What I didn't expect was how often they told me it had changed the way they saw their clients, too.

Jessica's words capture that beautifully:
"This masterclass took me back to the roots of traditional herbalism and opened up a new dimension in the way I practise, giving me a deeper understanding of the herbs I work with and the patients I treat."

One of the joys of teaching this course is watching practitioners discover another layer to herbal prescribing. We certainly explore person pictures, iris signs, drop dosing and many of Dorothy Hall's philosophies, but what I really hope people take away is a different way of observing.

When we begin to understand the nature of the herbs alongside the nature of the person sitting in front of us, something shifts. Prescribing becomes more thoughtful, more individual and, I believe, more deeply rooted in the traditions of herbal medicine.

Thank you, Jessica, for your generous words and for allowing me to share your experience.

If you're interested in joining this year's masterclass, there is still time before we begin on 14 July. I'd love to welcome you.
