Today around 2pm, the Australian Government is testing the new AusAlert warning system by sending a LOUD alert to phones and devices across Australia.

Phones and mobile devices will vibrate and play a loud noise that sounds like a siren.
• the sound will play for about 10 seconds
• the sound will play even if your phone is on ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’
• you do not need to do anything, this is just a test

The Australian Government is testing the new AusAlert warning system by sending a LOUD alert to phones and devices across Australia.

📅 Date: Monday 27 July
🕑 Time: Around 2pm
It could happen a bit before or after 2pm.

Phones and mobile devices will vibrate and play a loud noise that sounds like a siren.
• the sound will play for about 10 seconds
• the sound will play even if your phone is on ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’
• you do not need to do anything, this is just a test

This test will send an alert to:
• phones
• smart watches
• tablets
• some landline phones

The alert may play through other devices connected to your phone such as:
• hearing aids
• cochlear implants
• speakers

To avoid this, you can:
• turn off Bluetooth on your phone and devices before the test
• keep hearing aids, cochlear implants and speakers disconnected from your phone and other devices during the test

AusAlerts may also play through:
• text-to-speech
• screen readers
• refreshable braille devices
• screen magnification tools
• bed shakers

The AusAlert test will be loud which may be stressful.
If you do not want to get the alert:
• turn off your phone and mobile devices before 1pm on Monday 27 July
• leave them turned off for at least 1 hour after the test time
• the alert may be active for up to 24 hours after the test time

If you have a hidden phone to help keep you safe, the alert could make that device easier to find.
• turn your device off or give it to a trusted friend or family member before the test
• only turn it back on once you are in a safe place to do so
