"I'm not a carer. I just help Mum out."

If you've ever said that, this one's for you.

It's National Carers Week, and this year's theme is making carers visible. Around 3 million Australians give unpaid care. 1.2 million are someone's primary carer. Plenty of them never use the word.

That matters for a practical reason. The support is attached to the word. If you don't see yourself as a carer, you don't go looking for help that's already there.

So, plainly. If you do unpaid care for someone, you're a carer. Carer Gateway is free, it's national, and it's on 1800 422 737.

Swipe through for five things carers should know early. The full guide, including how to plan what comes next before a crisis decides it for you, is in the first comment.

Know a carer? Tag them below. Then ask how they're actually going, and wait for the real answer.

Cerebral palsy doesn't stop at eighteen. The conversation about support shouldn't stop either.

For World Cerebral Palsy Day on 6 October, we're talking about adult life: changing services, changing support needs and parents who are getting older too.

Planning a future home starts with the adult. What matters to them? Where do they want to live? Who do they want involved?

The housing conversation goes better two years early than in a crisis week. It's advice to start the conversation, not a deadline or a promise.

Maxlife Care supports adults through Supported Independent Living and Specialist Disability Accommodation across NSW.

Sometimes support starts with something as simple as, “How are you really going?”

October is Mental Health Month.

It’s a reminder to check in with ourselves, but also with the people around us. Because sometimes a conversation, a laugh, a coffee or simply having someone there can mean more than we realise.

At Maxlife Care, we believe everyone deserves to feel heard, valued, connected and supported.

This month, make the check-in. Send the message. Have the conversation.

Helping someone find a SIL or SDA home through the NDIS?

The house is the easy part to judge. It's everything else that matters. Who's on shift. Who they'll live with. Who calls you when something happens at 2am.

Here are six questions to ask any provider before anyone moves in. Ask us too.

Save this for when you need it, or share it with someone who's going through it now.

Belonging isn't a poster on the wall. It's whether someone feels like they're actually part of the place.

That's what the Max-Way Awards are about.
Elyce Pobiega, our General Manager of Operations, explains how it works and who it's for. Every month we recognise the people who live our values in the small moments. The support worker who stayed back. The team member who noticed something nobody else did. The one who made a house feel like home.

Being and belonging. That's the Max Way.

Today is World Patient Safety Day.

When someone has ongoing care, the details need to travel with them. A change in medication. An update from hospital. Something a support worker has noticed.

A good handover helps keep everyone informed.

Clinical governance is built into how each Maxlife home runs, alongside support workers who know the person and notice the small changes.

Working through a transition for someone you care about? Send us a message. 1800 100 629.

Looking for an SDA home where you can have your own space? 🏡
Our one bedroom villa in Eagle Vale is available now, with your own kitchen, living area and bathroom. There’s also a covered terrace and fenced yard to enjoy some time outside.

It’s a sole occupancy home, so you won’t be sharing your everyday living spaces with housemates.

The villa is registered for High Physical Support, Fully Accessible or Improved Liveability SDA.

If you’re looking for yourself, a family member or someone you support, we’d love to help you see whether it feels right.

"Are you OK?" doesn't look the same for everyone.

In 2022, 43% of adults with disability aged 18-64 reported high or very high psychological distress. R U OK? research also found that 38% of people who said they were OK actually were not.

The way we ask matters. An answer might be spoken, typed, shown with a picture or AAC, expressed through a gesture, or it might need extra time.

This carousel shares practical ways to check in with the person you support, workers, visiting family, unpaid carers and yourself, without assumptions or pressure.

We have written the whole thing up properly, with the wording and the four steps set out. Read the full guide here: https://ap1.hubs.ly/H01mhx70

If there is immediate danger, call Triple Zero (000). Lifeline is available 24/7 on 13 11 14.

You do not get to choose the moment something goes wrong for someone you love.

You only get to choose who is standing there when it does.
That is who our recent Team Leader Day was for.
Team Leaders and Area Managers came in from Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, the Central Coast, Wollongong, the Illawarra and Sydney. One room, one day.
Clinical governance, and what it looks like at 3am rather than in a policy.

Standards in care, run by the people who set them. Escalation, before it needs escalating. And how we look after our own people, because a Team Leader carrying too much cannot carry anyone else.

We run these regularly. Not once a year.
Because when you are not in the room, the person who is becomes the whole plan.

That is what living life to the max is about. Supporting people to live theirs, by training ours to the max.

Happy Father’s Day !

Today is for the dads, grandads, stepdads, carers, mentors and father figures who show up in all the ways that matter.

The big moments are easy to remember. But often it’s the smaller ones that mean the most. The check-ins. The laughs. The advice. The patience. Simply being there.

To every father figure across the Maxlife Care community, thank you for the part you play in helping the people around you live life to the max.

Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Maxlife Care.
