June is Scoliosis Awareness Month, and scoliosis is not just a condition that affects teenagers.

Adult scoliosis is more common than many people realise. While some curves remain stable throughout life, others may change over time and can contribute to changes in posture, balance, mobility, and pain.

Changes in spinal alignment are not limited to scoliosis. Many adults notice increasing stooping posture, difficulty standing upright, loss of height, or a tendency to lean forwards with age. These changes may be related to sagittal balance, spinal degeneration, osteoporosis, scoliosis, or simply the ageing process.

Importantly, not all postural changes or spinal asymmetries require treatment. However, if you have noticed changes in your posture, alignment, height, or spinal shape, it may be worth having them assessed.

At UprightCare, our team has extensive experience managing scoliosis, spinal deformity, sagittal balance disorders, and complex spine conditions across all ages. We help patients better understand their spinal health and, where appropriate, monitor changes over time and develop individualised management strategies.

Early assessment can provide reassurance, establish a baseline, and help identify those patients who may benefit from ongoing monitoring or treatment.

Reach out to our team or book an assessment to learn more.

Scoliosis doesn't always lead to surgery.

Management depends on many factors, including age, curve magnitude, skeletal maturity, symptoms, and risk of progression. Treatment may involve observation, scoliosis-specific exercise, bracing, or, in some cases, surgery.

Physiotherapy, particularly scoliosis-specific approaches (such as the Schroth Method, BSPTS-Rigo, SEAS, etc), can play an important role in helping children, adolescents, and adults with scoliosis improve posture, function, breathing, and quality of life.

At our clinic, we have extensive experience managing both adolescent and adult scoliosis. Our team creates individualised treatment programs tailored to each person's spinal presentation, goals, and stage of life, working closely with medical, surgical and orthotic colleagues where appropriate.

If you or your child has been diagnosed with scoliosis, early assessment and appropriate guidance can make a real difference.

June is scoliosis awareness month! The primary aim of scoliosis awareness month is to highlight the importance of timeous detection of scoliosis. Early detection of scoliosis may optimise treatment options and delay, reduce the impact of progression, or prevent the need for surgical intervention.

The Adam's test is common and easy method of screening scoliosis.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
