Song inspiration đź’”

Rainer Maria Rilke’s Liebes-Lied (Love Song), from Neue Gedichte, 1907. Rilke wrote it in the summer of 1906 on Capri, during his second Paris period, and it appeared in Neue Gedichte (New Poems). Poem plot: A man trying to keep his soul from touching someone else’s, and failing. He uses musical imagery. Here is the German opening:

Wie soll ich meine Seele halten, daĂź
sie nicht an deine rĂĽhrt?

And the turn near the end:

der aus zwei Saiten eine Stimme zieht.

Translation: How am I meant to hold my soul back so it doesn’t brush against yours? ... Everything that touches us, you and me, draws us together like a bow, pulling one voice out of two strings. The poem ends by asking which instrument the two of them are strung on and which violinist holds them in his hand, then closes on O süßes Lied, “O sweet song.”

🧠 Brain benefit

A song can become the keeper of a chapter of your life. Patel describes how music fuses with episodic memory, so a track heard often during an important time, like falling in love, can carry you straight back to that feeling years later. Let this one hold something of yours.

🎧 I’m The One I Was Waiting For 🎵

She walked away once you gave her your heart. And somehow, you came home to yourself.

No feeling is final. We can go to the limits of our longing, then turn back, and realise we’ve always been the one we had been waiting for.

This track is for all the men who came through loss and sorrow and found the fortitude to walk their own path.

“You may not look. You may not know.
Love him blind, or let him go.
I knew his hands. I knew his breath.
I knew the dark. I knew its depth.

The lamp will cost you everything.
It cost me years of wandering.
But show me one who wouldn’t lift
the light to see who gave the gift.”

Eighty rhymed poems, with Fate speaking first (in italics) and Flesh answering in defiance.

On Naxos, Ariadne wakes to an empty horizon and decides the thread stays tied to her own wrist. Circe notes that what looks like an island from the sea is a kingdom from the shore. Chiron tends every hero who comes to him bleeding. All wounds close, it seems, but his.

Situationship. Left on Read. Red Flags. Self-Partnered. Modern titles, three-thousand-year-old voices.

Four movements, moving as one: the omen, the fire, the wound, and the gold. Becoming is the work.

Fate may speak first in every poem, but it never speaks last.

A short guide to the myths sits at the back for anyone meeting them for the first time.

Addiction Is More Myth Than Malady
The exile of Eros in an age of infinite appetite, and what happens when Dionysus overrides Apollo.

In his correspondence with Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder Bill Wilson, Jung described the craving for alcohol as a displaced spiritual thirst for wholeness. His phrase was spiritus contra spiritum: spirit against spirits. This spiritus means both "spirit" and "spirits." He used the phrase spiritus contra spiritum to mean that overcoming the destructive spirit of addiction requires replacing it with a higher, positive spiritual experience.

But this idea can feel abstract until you see how it plays out in lived experience.

At 3 am, the ritual runs itself:

One more drink.
One more bet.
One more scroll.
One more text to someone who stopped replying weeks ago.

Different objects. Same promise: this will fix how I feel, right now.

Science shows that wanting can intensify while pleasure fades. Myth gives the drama a face: Dionysus takes over, Apollo loses his veto, and Eros goes hungry.

My new Substack article, Addiction Is More Myth Than Malady, explores the psychology of addiction through Jungian psychology and Greek mythology. Alcohol, drugs, po*******hy, gambling, shopping, social media, romantic obsession and work. Different altars. Same insatiable god.

Sol Niger : The Black Sun

"Our gold is not the common gold. It is a hidden sun, shining quietly within the dark earth."
- Ancient Alchemical Text

What happens when hitting every external milestone leaves you feeling completely empty inside?

The Black Sun: Finding the Luminous Path Through Burnout

🌟 Why it matters: From the outside, you are projecting success. But when you close your laptop, reality hits: you are running on empty. You can't fix a deep, existential exhaustion with a new productivity app.

In 1622, alchemists called this heavy state the Sol Niger, or Black Sun. They didn't view it as a failure to be scrubbed away. They saw it as the nigredo—the vital first stage of transformation.

The exhaustion hasn't arrived to destroy you; it has arrived to dissolve the mask you have dutifully worn for years. Inside this darkness, something luminous is gestating.

She enters the sphere of power itself.

She did not seek the crown. Only the ear of the man who wore it.
That is where the witch becomes truly dangerous.
Not outside the kingdom, but inside its architecture. Beside the throne. Beneath strategy. Within desire itself.

The king possessed armies, laws, banners, steel. Yet he turned toward her because sovereign power always develops a secret dependence on what it publicly condemns. Prophecy. Instinct. Blood knowledge. The irrational. The occult.

The raven perched beside the throne like a second conscience.
Jung observed that what remains unconscious eventually returns as fate. The witch in court is precisely this return: the repressed feminine appearing at the centre of masculine authority.
Not wife. Not mother. Not muse. Oracle.

The monstrous feminine is not horrifying because she is evil. She is horrifying because she cannot be assimilated into patriarchal order without destabilising it. She becomes the dark intelligence behind the symbolic father.

And so the king began consulting what should never sit beside power.
Not because he trusted her. Because he needed her.
By then, the transformation was complete.

The kingdom no longer belonged entirely to the king.

“Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror.
Just keep going. No feeling is final.”
— Rainer Maria Rilke

There are moments when something enters you without asking.
A feeling. A memory. A presence that feels older than your name.
It does not knock.
It blooms.
And suddenly, you are no longer singular.
You are inhabited by something that sees through you, feels through you, wants through you.
This is not disruption.
This is intimacy—with the unseen life within.
