Calling all therapeutically-endorsed optometrists! 👀✨

Young Optometrists is running another Therapeutics Study Session for UNSW 5th year students, and we’d love your help to make it happen.

📋 How it works: Each facilitator gets one prepared case with questions and answers. Small groups of students rotate through, spending 30 minutes on each case.

📅 When and where: A Saturday or Sunday in November, either in person at the UNSW Optometry Clinic or on Zoom (details to be confirmed). It usually runs 4 to 5 hours, with lunch included.

💙 Why join: It’s a great way to mentor students heading into their therapeutics orals and give back to the profession.

Last Monday, we had the pleasure of hosting a Lacrimal Workshop with Dr Kenny Chan and the team at Central Sydney Eye Surgeons

This workshop was a long time in the making, sparked by a topic our members wanted to learn more about. We’re so grateful to Dr Chan and his team for sharing their expertise and helping us create such an intimate and interactive evening of learning and discussion.

A big thank you also to Mivision and Todd Tai for capturing the evening and contributing the eye chart raffle prize, and to our patron supporter CooperVision for helping make this event possible.

Join us for an informative evening with Adjunct Professor Hemal Mehta presenting on New Treatments for Geographic Atrophy and Dr Robert Chong presenting on Causes of Vitreous Haemorrhage. This practical session will focus on recognising key clinical signs, interpreting modern imaging, understanding the latest evidence for emerging treatments, and knowing when timely referral can make a difference.
Learn how recent advances in complement inhibition are changing the outlook for patients with geographic atrophy, including which patients may benefit from treatment, how to counsel them regarding expectations, the treatment burden, and potential risks. The session will also provide a practical and structured approach to assessing vitreous haemorrhage, including common causes, complications, investigations and referral pathways through real-world case discussions.
