I’ve created something!! (If you don’t have time to read, skip to the last paragraph!)
Almost 8 years ago, when I left my school in Abu Dhabi to pursue a new life adventure in Phuket, a dear colleague popped into my classroom with a leaving present. It was a beautiful notebook, packaged with a note telling me to enjoy life’s next chapter. As an avid list-maker, and someone always with daily to-do notes, I remember thinking this would be my Phuket life planner, as I popped it into my hand luggage.
Living and working my dream job in Thailand had my gratitude levels soaring through the roof. It brought with it daily moments and experiences, both big and small, that I didn’t want to forget. Several times a week I found myself reaching for my new notebook, eagerly recording the events of my day, the people I’d met, the things I’d learnt, the emotions I was feeling and capturing my overall gratitude. It became so much more than just a space for my to-do lists! The book accompanied me wherever I went - down to the pier at sunrise, to the local cafe or beach on my days off, to bed with me at the end of busy days, travelling with me during visits home, on visa runs and on holidays (check out the last pic - it’s well-worn!)
One of my favourite things about having this book, containing all these reflections and thoughts, was (and still is) picking it up on the more mundane, non-eventful, perhaps even ‘down’ days, and reading through the things I’d written. To be able to reminisce on all the little joyful moments from previous, days, months, years, ones that may well have been forgotten if not captured in the book - it’s such a mood booster.
That original notebook now spans life experiences from December 2015 up until mid 2023 and is very precious to me. Once the book was full, I reverted to using a small gratitude journal - with space to list 3 things daily. I found myself wanting to write more, missing having the room to expand on thoughts and feelings and capturing any happy experience in more detail, hence the reason for this post…
Returning from holiday recently, feeling refreshed and creative, I decided I wanted to create my very own journal to continue logging life, in hope that others might feel inspired to do so too.
