Rachel’s son Sam is, in a word, outdoorsy. “He would live outside if we let him,” says the mum of two, who snapped this pic of her family mid-adventure.⁠

When he was eight, a swallow study showed Sam was aspirating on his food and drink. He had a gastrostomy tube placed and, since then, has relied on a blended whole-food keto diet through his Moog Infinity feeding pump.⁠

“Sam’s able to get good, healthy food while enjoying any activity he wants to do,” says Rachel. “Recently, we hiked a portion of the Appalachian Trail while getting his lunch.” ⁠

When asked how she felt when one of her sons, Pat, got his feeding tube, Amelia said:⁠

“At first, I think there was a bit of denial, I kept thinking ‘this is only temporary’ and without a diagnosis it was a blurry road. No one really plans or prepares you to tube-feed your child but, with time, we started to see the tube as a positive thing for Pat – to accept it and now be so incredibly proud of it. And him!”⁠
