Whether it’s winter cropping, livestock management or preparing for the months ahead, it’s a reminder of how quickly the season moves.

Winter cropping activity continues across many regions, with conditions ranging from strong establishment through to patchy emergence in drier areas.

Key focus areas this time of year include w**d control, nitrogen strategy and monitoring crop health through early growth stages. Seasonal conditions can change quickly, making regular paddock assessment increasingly important.

Lamb survival and ewe performance are heavily influenced by management in the final 4–6 weeks before lambing. During late pregnancy, energy demand increases significantly, particularly in twin- and triplet-bearing ewes, making nutrition one of the key drivers of birthweight, vigour and colostrum quality.

Shelter availability, pasture utilisation and minimising ewe stress can also impact survival rates during cold and wet conditions. Monitoring condition score and planning feed requirements ahead of lambing can help support both ewe recovery and lamb performance through marking and weaning
