SAL Consulting is a human services consultancy that is focused on providing customised support to people and agencies within the health and community services sector, including organisations focusing on:

- supporting children, and youth;
- clients with a disability;
- and persons with mental health support needs;
- and their families. It's National Carers Week – a time to recognise, celebrate and raise awareness of the more than 3 million Australians who provide unpaid care to a family member or friend. The 2026 theme, “Care for a carer: Making carers visible,” shines a light on the invaluable contribution of unpaid carers and encourages all Australians to recognise, support and care for the carers in their families, workplaces and communities.

Cerebral palsy is the most common lifelong physical disability, affecting a person's ability to walk, move, or communicate. It is caused by an injury to the developing brain, but every individual’s experience with cerebral palsy is unique. Some people require lifelong support, while others live independently.

Every person with cerebral palsy has their own experiences, priorities and ideas about what needs to change. This year's theme for World Cerebral Palsy Day – – is about the power of bringing those voices together. This World CP Day, is about individual ideas for change into a collective call for a more inclusive world.

Enrolments are now open for our Behaviour Support in Action course, which begins on 15th October. This 6 month course is a great way to add behaviour support to your (or your team’s) toolkit. This updated program is strongly aligned with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission’s Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework and helps to prepare you to deliver behaviour support at a Core Practitioner level.

16-year-old John Pat died in a police cell on 28 September in 1983 at Roebourne police station in Western Australia (WA). He was found to have suffered a fractured skull, hemorrhage and bruising and tearing of the brain. He was arrested following a fight involving four off-duty police officers outside the town's old Victoria Hotel. Witnesses testified they saw officers beating him while dragging him to a cell at the local watch house.

His death launched the landmark Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody and exposed a fractured relationship between the justice system and First Nations people.

Since 1991, when the Royal Commission made 339 recommendations aimed at addressing the high number of deaths like John Pat’s, the number of Aboriginal deaths in custody has increased, and many of the recommendations have not been implemented.

Between the Royal Commission and now, more than 470 Aboriginal people have lost their lives in police custody.

Today we celebrate the International Day of Sign Languages. Established by the United Nations General Assembly, IDSL recognises the importance of sign languages in the realisation of human rights for deaf people across the globe. The day aims to raise awareness of the deaf community's issues and challenges, celebrating the richness of sign language culture and promoting linguistic diversity.
If unfamiliar, take the first step by learning the basics of sign language. Even understanding a few signs can make a difference in bridging communication gaps.

Almost half a million Australians are living with dementia today and over 1.7 million people are involved in their care. It's time to talk - a national conversation about dementia is made up of thousands of smaller ones - in GP clinics, workplaces, community halls and family homes.��

Every conversation can tell someone it’s safe to speak up, that they’re not alone, and connects them to support they didn't know exists. Dementia is Australia’s leading cause of death, but it’s not talked about nearly enough.

It can feel too hard to raise. We worry about saying the wrong thing. And it’s often wrongly seen as just a part of getting older. But silence has a cost - delayed diagnoses and treatment, carers who feel isolated, and people who never learn that help is here.

When we talk about dementia, we can:
• Improve support and services for Australians
• Improve understanding of dementia
• Reduce stigma and discrimination

Our NSW and Victorian teams recently participated in their mid-term NDIS audits … (drumroll please) we’ve received Best Practice recommendations for our orientation and induction process, our supervision, staff training and development, and our management of staff performance!

Each of these areas directly impact client outcomes and we’re enormously proud to share this fantastic audit result.

This result shows that our work supporting our practitioners to learn, develop and do their best work helps us provide better support for the people, families and communities we work alongside is delivering real world results.
