Our 'Strong Connections Strong Heart' team commemorating Reconciliation Week Yolŋu style!

Celebrating the embodiment of Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB), Yolŋu leadership and two worldview, therapeutic, practice integration. Our 'Strong Connections Strong Heart' team, together with Yolŋu artists from Bula’Bula and the broader Ramingining community from very remote Arnhem Land, NT - Bunggul (dance) together in celebration of our collective journey in authentic co-designed community wellbeing.

Over the past two years, we have driven through rivers and flew over stone Country to immerse for one week a month, listen deeply, sit with clan families, artists and community leaders. Our goal: connecting and supporting people living with disability, psychosocial challenges, trauma and grief to thrive. We have walked on Country led by Yolŋu, delivering 'Strong Connections Strong Heart', a therapeutic cultural arts / yarning program that has extended beyond expectations.

We walked in with permission, quietly, with openness and over time our relationships and connections developed. The trust grew, as did the program. The community recognised we were walking beside them. The incredible support from the team at Bula’Bula Arts helped to make this all possible and we thank them.

We look forward to developments over the next 12 months and thank Australian Government’s - Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program for the continued opportunity.

This week is Infant Mental Health Awareness Week, and at SAL Consulting, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on the theme of ‘Attunement’. Attunement describes the sensitive, responsive interactions between caregivers and babies, forming the foundation for healthy development. When caregivers tune in to how an infant or young child they are supporting the child to understand their world and themselves, support their brain to grow and develop, provides a building block for social and emotional skills and helps them feel safe, building trust so they feel confident to explore, grow and learn.

Today is Mabo Day, and the final day of National Reconciliation Week.

Today we commemorate Eddie Koiki Mabo, a Meriam man from the island of Mer (Murray Island) in the Torres Straits, alongside his family and community for their decade-long fight to overturn the once legal and acceptable concept that Australia was ‘terra nullius’, or ‘land belonging to no-one’.

Their courage and determination led to the historic landmark 1992 High Court decision which affirmed that Native Title does exist, and that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples hold rights to land and waters that pre-date colonisation.

The following year the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth), was enacted, paving the way for claims by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to their traditional rights to land and compensation.

National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation. While this date carries great significance for the Stolen Generations and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, it is also commemorated by Australians right around the country.

We cannot begin to fix the problems of the present without accepting the truth of our history. Sorry Day asks us to acknowledge the Stolen Generations, and in doing so, reminds us that historical injustice is still an ongoing source of intergenerational trauma for Aboriginal and Torres Islander families, communities, and peoples.

Today is World Schizophrenia Awareness Day - held each May to build understanding about schizophrenia and challenge stigma. Too often, public conversations about schizophrenia focus on headlines that create fear or misunderstanding. In 2026, Schizophrenia Awareness Day encourages people to look 'beyond the headlines' and learn about the real experiences of people living with the condition.

Schizophrenia is a complex mental health condition that can affect how a person thinks, perceives, and experiences the world. With the right supports, many people live meaningful lives in their communities. By increasing understanding, Schizophrenia Awareness Day aims to replace stigma with empathy and support.
