Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome or PMOS (formerly referred to as Polycystic O***y Syndrome or PCOS), is a complex hormonal condition that affects ovulation and can significantly impact women’s health. It affects millions of women worldwide and can result in symptoms such as irregular periods, excess hair growth, skin issues, weight changes, mood shifts and difficulty conceiving.

If you suspect you have PMOS, ultrasound can help identify the hallmark signs. Get in touch with our team today.

If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with PCOS, you may have noticed something new: it now has a different name.

PCOS is now officially known as PMOS or Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome, following the largest global engagement ever conducted for a medical name change. Over 22,000 survey responses, worldwide workshops, and the voices of 56 patient organisations helped shape this decision.

The new name better reflects what we know about the condition. PMOS affects far more than the ovaries. It's a complex hormonal and metabolic condition that impacts the whole body. And critically, not everyone with PMOS has ovarian cysts, making the old name both confusing and, for many women, inaccurate.

There's a 3-year transition period where both names will be used, with PMOS fully embedded into the 2028 International Guidelines.

At OMNI Ultrasound, we're committed to staying at the forefront of evidence-based care. If you have questions about PMOS, your diagnosis, or what this change means for you, we're here to help. Learn more via the link in bio.
