💪 What is your Rotator Cuff?

The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles and tendons that surround your shoulder joint, helping to keep it stable and allowing you to lift, reach, and rotate your arm.

When the rotator cuff becomes irritated, strained, or injured, it can lead to:
🔹 Shoulder pain
🔹 Weakness when lifting your arm
🔹 Pain reaching overhead
🔹 Difficulty sleeping on the affected side

The good news? Many rotator cuff injuries respond well to physiotherapy, with targeted exercises to improve strength, mobility, and function.

If shoulder pain is stopping you from doing the things you enjoy, our team can help. Call (02) 9907 0321 for an individualised assessment and treatment.

🎿 Heading to the snow this winter? Make sure your body is as prepared as your ski gear! ❄️

Skiing is demanding on your muscles, joints, and cardiovascular system. A little preparation before your trip can go a long way in helping you stay injury-free and enjoy more time on the slopes. ⛷️🏔️

⭐ Our Top 5 Physio-Approved Tips to Prevent Ski Injuries ⭐

💪 1. Build Leg Strength
Strong quads, glutes, and hamstrings help support your knees and improve control on the slopes. Think squats, lunges, step-ups, and wall sits.

⚖️ 2. Improve Your Balance
Good balance can help reduce falls and lower the risk of knee injuries. Single-leg exercises and balance drills are a great place to start.

🤸 3. Increase Mobility
Flexible hips and ankles help you move more efficiently and reduce unnecessary stress on your knees and lower back.

🏋️ 4. Strengthen Your Core
Your core is your body's powerhouse for stability and control. Add planks, side planks, and dead bugs to your routine.

❤️ 5. Build Your Fitness
Tired legs are more prone to injury. Activities like cycling, hiking, jogging, or stair climbing can help improve your endurance before your trip.

🎿 Get Ski-Ready!
Just a few weeks of targeted training can boost your confidence, improve your performance, and help prevent injuries this ski season.

❄️💪 If you're planning a snow trip and want personalised advice or a ski-specific exercise program, our physios and exercise physiologists can help get you slope-ready! 📞 (02) 9907 0321

Tennis Elbow (Often Starting at the Wrist)

🎾 Pain gripping? Opening jars? Lifting the kettle?

Tennis elbow does not just occur in tennis players and it often starts with overload through the wrist.

The wrist extensor muscles attach near the outer elbow. When they’re repeatedly overloaded (gym, racquet sports, manual work, typing), pain can develop around the elbow.

Common signs:
• Pain on the outside of the elbow
• Pain gripping or lifting
• Reduced grip strength
• Symptoms building over time

The solution isn’t complete rest. It is:
✔️ Graduated strengthening
✔️ Load management
✔️ Addressing wrist and forearm capacity
✔️ Correcting contributing movement patterns

Letting it linger often makes it more stubborn and take longer to recover from. Research shows that early targeted rehab gets better outcomes.

If your elbow has been “niggling” for weeks, it’s time to get it assessed. Call (02) 9907 0321 or visit www.totalphysiomv.com

National Diabetes Week is an opportunity to raise awareness about diabetes, support those living with the condition, and highlight how regular physical activity can make a meaningful difference to health and wellbeing.

Led by Diabetes Australia, the campaign encourages early detection of symptoms, greater understanding of the condition, and reducing the stigma often associated with living with diabetes. By learning the signs, supporting those affected, and promoting healthy conversations, we can help create a more informed and compassionate community.

Benefits of physical activity for diabetes:

💪 Helps manage blood glucose levels by improving the body's ability to use insulin and lowering blood sugar.
❤️ Supports heart health by reducing blood pressure, improving cholesterol levels, and lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease.
⚖️ Assists with maintaining a healthy weight by increasing energy expenditure and supporting muscle mass.
😊 Boosts overall wellbeing by improving mood, reducing stress, increasing energy, and enhancing quality of life.
🦶 Improves physical function and mobility, making everyday activities easier and supporting long-term independence.

Stay active with our diabetes-specific exercise classes, designed to provide a safe and supportive environment where you will build strength, improve fitness, and gain confidence in managing your health - whether you're newly diagnosed or have been living with diabetes for years.
