Louise and Rebecca recently attended a course to advance their skills in pessary fitting. A pessary is a device used to support a pelvic organ prolapse. There are many different shapes and sizes - finding the best one for a woman can be like fitting shoes.

A well-fitting pessary can significantly reduce awareness of a prolapse allowing women to participate comforatbly in exercise, caring for children or grandchildren, gardening and other activities that they have avoided due to prolapse.

A pessary is just one of the strategies a women's health physio can use to help women manage a prolapse. If you would like help with a prolapse, call us on 9907 0321 or book online www.totalphysiomv.com.

🤸 Is your child struggling with balance, coordination, running, ball skills or keeping up with physical activities? 🏃‍♀️⚽

Our titled paediatric physiotherapist uses the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, Third Edition (BOT-3) to assess gross motor skills, coordination, strength, and movement confidence in children. 💪🧠

The BOT-3 is a fun, evidence-based assessment that helps identify areas where children may benefit from physiotherapy support. 🌟 It can also assist families accessing NDIS-funded therapy by providing clear information about functional movement challenges and progress over time.

Early support can make a big difference in helping children build confidence, improve physical skills, and participate more fully at school, sport, and everyday activities. 🎯🏫

🖐️ Small injuries need treatment too! 🖐️

A patient came in having shut her right ring finger in the car door the day before. The finger had swollen up and was extremely bruised and painful. She was unable to move it and was concerned about performing household tasks and her job as a Pilates instructor without knocking the finger and hurting it more. She was also about to travel overseas.

These types of injuries often result in small fractures of the end bone of the finger, and are called a tuft fracture.

The hand therapist fabricated a custom-made thermoplastic finger splint and immediately her finger started to feel more comfortable.

Within a few days her bruising and swelling was settling and she was able to start moving the finger with only minimal discomfort.

She was able to travel without worrying that her finger was going to be vulnerable, and returned for further physiotherapy after her trip to work on restoring full movement and strength in her finger.

Moral of the story: don’t ignore the seemingly small injuries as physiotherapy has a lot to offer, to allow good tissue recovery and restoration of full function!

🖐️ If this may be you call (02) 9907 0321 to book in and have an assessment.

✋ Hand Therapy Week Australia

Can you guess all of the conditions that hand physiotherapists will treat? Comment if you think we missed any.

Hand therapy isn’t only for major injuries. Many everyday problems can benefit from specialised treatment. Even small injuries can cause long term issues if not addressed properly early on.

Your hands each contain 27 bones, 34 muscles, and over 100 ligaments and tendons working together to help you do everyday things - like typing, cooking, playing sports, or simply holding someone’s hand?

✋ Hand therapists are specialised in helping with:
✔️ Sports and workplace injuries
✔️ Fractures and tendon injuries
✔️ Post-surgical rehabilitation
✔️ Arthritis and joint discomfort
✔️ Nerve conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome
✔️ Custom splinting and hand strengthening

Through expert assessment, tailored exercises, and specialised splints, hand therapists help people restore movement, reduce pain, and get back to the activities they love.

This Hand Therapy Week, take a moment to appreciate how much we rely on our hands every day - and the professionals dedicated to helping them heal.

✋ Book in to see our hand physio Jane by calling (02) 9907 0321 or visiting www.totalphysiomv.com

✈️ Travelling soon?
Don’t arrive at your destination feeling stiff, sore, and exhausted.

Long flights = lots of sitting… and that can lead to tight muscles, poor circulation, and unwanted aches. The good news? A few simple habits can make a big difference 👇

💺 Pick your seat wisely
An aisle or exit row = more space + easier movement

🚶‍♀️ Keep moving
Stand, stretch, or walk the aisle every 1–2 hours

💧 Stay hydrated
Water is your best friend (go easy on caffeine + alcohol)

🧍‍♂️ Support your posture
Use a small pillow or rolled towel for your lower back

😴 Neck support matters
A good travel pillow = less strain while you sleep

🌀 Stretch it out
Simple neck, shoulder & ankle movements keep blood flowing

🧠 Relax your body
Try slow breathing or short mindfulness exercises

🧦 Consider compression wear
Helpful for swelling or if you’re at higher risk of clots

👕 Dress for comfort
Avoid tight clothing that restricts circulation

If you have any pre-existing conditions, it’s always best to check in with your GP before you fly.

✨ Take care of your body while you travel, so you can arrive feeling refreshed not restricted.

Your body was made to move: keep it that way, wherever you go. Call (02) 9907 0321 if you want more specific advice.
