You've tried everything. The magnesium. The chamomile tea. No screens after 9. The lavender pillow spray, the perfect wind-down playlist, the book instead of your phone. And you still snap awake at 3am, heart going, brain already running through tomorrow's list.
Here's what nobody tells you: a nervous system that's been in fight-or-flight since your first coffee doesn't switch off just because you dimmed the lights an hour before bed.
You spent the whole day in overdrive. Back-to-back meetings, a hundred open tabs, eating lunch at your desk, doom-scrolling in the gaps, running on adrenaline and caffeine. Your body never once got the signal that it was safe to stand down. So it's still switched on at 3am, because that's the setting you left it on all day.
That's why the one-hour bedtime routine doesn't cut it. You can't undo fifteen hours of stress in the last sixty minutes before bed.
Sleep isn't a bedtime routine. It's what your nervous system does all day, catching up on you at night.
The fix isn't a better wind-down. It's learning to regulate your system in the daylight hours, so by the time your head hits the pillow, your body already knows how to switch off. And the fastest way in is your breath.
Comment SLEEP if you'd like to learn how.
