The Lion’s Gate Portal is said to be a period of increased cosmic energy between 26th July and 12th August, peaking on August 8. Proponents believe that during this time, the Earth aligns with the star Sirius, Orion, and the Galactic Center, creating a “portal” that facilitates spiritual awakening, abundance, ascension, and increased consciousness during Leo season
This belief is very commonly misconstrued in modern new age spirituality rather than based on ancient traditions. There is no substantial evidence from historical astronomy or astrology to support the existence of such a portal.
While the concept of the Lion’s Gate Portal is popular in the new age community, it lacks historical and astronomical evidence. The numerological importance of 8/8 is still meaningful, holding personal significance for success and new beginnings. However, as a portal of ascension, I remain doubtful.
Sirius Rising - In ancient Egypt, the heliacal rising of Sirius (which occurs around July) marked the beginning of the Nile flood and the start of the Egyptian New Year. This timing is often linked to the Lion’s Gate Portal, which is believed to peak on 8th August. However, the heliacal rising of Sirius today occurs at a different time due to the precession of the equinoxes, which affects the timing of these events.
Sirius in Ancient Rome - Conversely, in ancient Rome, the rising of Sirius was associated with drought, famine, and unrest due to the intense mid-summer heat they endured during this time. The star’s appearance marked the hottest period of the year, known as the “Dog Days of Summer.”
