Did you know that less than 10% of Australian childcare services currently provide food that fully meets national nutrition guidelines?

A new $4.9M Medical Research Future Fund project, led by the University of Newcastle, will work with NSW childcare services to close that gap, with the potential to influence the nutritional quality of more than 500,000 meals served to Australian children every week.

An enlightening article of sustainable fishing and the farmed salmon industry I just had to share.

Includes a link to how to choose nutritious, sustainable seafood towards the end of the article.

When you combine a healthy diet and lifestyle with medication, you get better outcomes than medication alone.

Why? Because the nutrients help the pathways the medication is acting on to work better.

Did you know that 1 in 11 Australian children now have high blood pressure (hypertension)!..
with routine screening now recommended from the age of 7.

What are the key underlying drivers? Ultraprocessed foods high in fats, sugars and salt and the increase in overweight/obese children.

High blood pressure is known as the silent killer. The longer you have it, the more damage is done to your blood vessels leading eventually to atherosclerosis (blocked arteries) and heart disease.

What can you do about it?
Eat plenty of fresh fruit, veggies, legumes/beans, nuts and seeds and get moving.

I know it isn't easy sometimes, in a time-poor society, and it isn't definitely cool on the playground. My kids lived through it... everyone having packets of chips, museli bars, biscuits and cakes, but your kids healthy adult years count on it.

Now they are in their very early adult years, I find them now teaching their friends of healthy recipes and low tox living.

With the weather getting colder and colder, it's getting harder to get those leafy greens in.

This is where spinach, silverbeet and Swiss chard come to the rescue.
By adding the extra virgin olive oil, you add heart and gut microbiome nurturing polyphenols, and fats help stabilise your blood glucose and keep you fuller for longer.
