Some experiences change the trajectory of a medical career.

For Zac Thornton, the 2025 International Anatomy Award recipient, three weeks at Cambridge did exactly that.

“Prior to the experience, surgery was something I was simply ‘interested’ in,” he says. “Since coming home, it's now something I'm absolutely passionate about.”

The International Anatomy Award offers what few moments in medical school can: time alongside world-leading anatomists and surgeons, in teaching spaces usually closed to students, at one of the oldest centres of medical learning in the world. It builds clarity about where a career might lead, a network of mentors and peers, and a confidence that follows a student home.

The International Anatomy Award makes that experience fully accessible to one medical student in Australia each year. With flights, accommodation and meals included, fully funded by Miga.

Applications close 31 July 2026 at 5pm (AEST).

This National Reconciliation Week, the Australian Institute of CPD Standards (AIcpdS) was proud to attend the South Australian Reconciliation Breakfast, joining over three thousand others committed to strengthening relationships, respect, and opportunities between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.

This year's theme, "All In", reminds us that reconciliation is an ongoing commitment that requires all of us to contribute through our actions, leadership, and willingness to listen and learn.

We were privileged to hear inspiring reflections from former AFL champion and respected cultural leader Eddie Betts, whose powerful message highlighted the importance of understanding, inclusion, and creating pathways for future generations. The moving performance by Casey Donovan was a reminder of the strength, resilience, and richness of First Nations cultures and stories.

At AIcpdS, we recognise that meaningful reconciliation requires more than words. It calls on all sectors, leaders, and lifelong learners to work together to create culturally safe, equitable, and inclusive environments that improve outcomes for all Australians.

Reconciliation is strongest when we are all in.
