There wasn't a dry eye in the room at Aveo

Residents at Bella Vista Haven have raised more than $10,๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ for Little Wings - to help seriously ill children and their families access vital medical treatment and transport across Australia. ๐Ÿ’™

The community hosted a fundraising morning tea, featuring a heartfelt presentation from Clare, CEO of Little Wings, that brought home the very real challenges facing many regional and remote families - and the community responded with an incredible show of generosity.

Through raffles, auctions, donations and plenty of community spirit, the residents rallied behind the cause. Special mention goes to GG the Giraffe, lovingly hand-knitted by a resident and auctioned for an impressive $330!

A huge well done to every talented knitter, volunteer and to Chef Wayne for the delicious morning tea. Bravo to you Bella Vista Haven, you've done something truly wonderful.

A shave to rememberโ€ฆ and a cut above the rest โœ‚๏ธ

At Concierge Balwyn in Melbourne, two very brave Aveo team members took on the Worldโ€™s Greatest Shave, right in the village salon!

The two said goodbye to their locks, while nearly 20 residents lined up to take a turn with the clippers. Letโ€™s just sayโ€ฆ there were plenty of close shaves, lots of laughs, and no shortage of new hairstyles.

The result? Over $3,๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ raised (and still growing!) for blood cancer research and support services, proving this community really knows how to cut it when it counts.

Bald, bold, and full of heart, well done

For more than 20 years, John McDowell has been turning timber into treasures. A pattern maker by trade and a passionate hobbyist, Johnโ€™s craftsmanship has become a beloved part of community celebrations at Cleveland Heights Retirement Living in Brisbaneโ€™s bayside.

We first admired Johnโ€™s work in the Aveo Resident Artwork Competition last year, and more recently, he teamed up with another resident to create a show-stopping Christmas raffle prize. While his neighbour built a wooden sleigh, John carved two reindeer and a Santa Claus to complete the festive scene! The lovely piece was raffled off and has now found its new home in the village.

John spends many days in the workshop within the community, hand-carving pieces for loved ones, family, friends and neighbours. Each piece is made with intricate detail and personal meaning โ€“ from a golf buggy for his brother-in-law to horses for his niece who loves riding. His work has spread throughout the community too, with residents requesting toy rocking horses for grandkids and great-grandkids โ€“ one loved theirs so much they wanted to take it to bed every night! Johnโ€™s creations tell stories of skill and generosity, a true labour of love from a resident whoโ€™s been sharing his talent with Cleveland Heights for eight wonderful years
