Lessons from a Labrador 🐾

Today would have been Gracie’s 15th birthday — a timely reminder of just how extraordinary our fur babies are, and always will be. As any dog parent knows, they bring us our best days, and our hardest ones too. The grief doesn’t end. But their memories stay, and they continue to live on in our hearts.

They leave a profound imprint on our lives — and quietly, patiently, they teach us.

They live fully in the present. Every walk is an adventure — new sights, new smells, new wonder. They remind us to find joy and appreciation in each ordinary day.

They follow nature’s rhythms. Sleeping when tired, eating when hungry, resting without guilt. No alarm clocks, no overriding their body’s signals. It is something we humans have largely unlearned — and perhaps our greatest lesson to relearn.

The same pillars of holistic health that nourish us, nourish them. Wholesome food, regular movement, restful sleep, reducing toxic load, time outdoors with bare paws on the earth — and of course, they are devoted fans of massage! The same prana, the same life force that flows through us, flows through them — and indeed through every living being. A humbling reminder that we are all connected and worthy of kindness and compassion.

They love unconditionally. No judgment, no conditions, no holding grudges. They meet us exactly where we are — and that, perhaps, is their greatest teaching of all.

Life is precious. Cherish the time with your fur babies — in every muddy walk, every stolen spot on the couch, every slow Sunday morning together.

“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”
— Anatole France

I’m Still Learning” — Michelangelo Buonarroti (at age 87)

What a perfect mug to sip from each morning!

If a great creative genius could say this at 87 — then surely none of us need feel embarrassed about being a perpetual student of life.

There is something deeply humbling and liberating in those three words. Humbling, because mastery is never truly final. Liberating, because it means we never have to arrive — we are always allowed to grow, question, and evolve.

This mug makes me smile every morning. Simple yet so profound. A thoughtful gift from my brother ( and very appropriate - he knows me well!) , from a family holiday in Rome— where Michelangelo’s spirit still breathes through every street, ceiling and stone.

Every morning it catches my eye and offers the same quiet invitation: slow down, stay open, and never stop being a student of this extraordinary life.

Medicine reminds me of this daily. We are wonderfully complex - body, mind and soul - and there is always, always more to learn and embrace.

In yoga and spiritual practice too, the same truth surfaces: the deeper you go, the more you realise how much lies beyond the horizon.

Michelangelo’s words are not a confession of inadequacy. They are a declaration of aliveness. To still be learning is to still be engaged — with the world, with others, with yourself.

Perhaps that’s the wisest posture any of us can hold — beginner’s mind, always. 🙏

When big changes launch us into fear and discomfort, it’s time to turn within and look at what limiting beliefs we still carry about ourselves. We’ve made it this far. We’ve made it through every crisis we have faced up until now, why should this time be different?

As my friend Peter Crone says: “Life will bring you people and circumstances to show you where you are not free.”

The external world is forever changing. If we attach our worth, our value, or our identity to a job, a relationship, a certain goal and it changes or ends, we are in trouble.

The real work is to look at these experiences that trigger us as mirrors, reflecting back to us a part/wound that needs nurturing, reassurance and love. To use triggers as opportunities to turn our attention inward to reflect and take inventory on where we need to hold the scared or wounded parts of us with a little more presence and love.

To remember that we are inherently worthy, safe, and good. And maybe these changes are not only guiding us back home to our hearts, but guiding us towards where we are meant to be.

Timeless words. Turn inward, heal, awaken. What you illuminate within, illuminates the world.🌟❤️🙏

Three years ago, I published “Slow Butterfly” — a holistic guide to understanding and managing Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and hypothyroidism, created to help those struggling find hope, healing, and balance.

My hope then, as now, has been to give those living with thyroid issues the tools, knowledge, and confidence to take charge of their health — mind, body, and spirit.

Over these three years, I’ve been moved by stories of transformation and healing from people all around the world. Thank you for allowing “Slow Butterfly” to be part of your journey.

If you haven’t read it yet, perhaps now is the perfect time to spread your wings!

The final line in “Slow Butterfly” reads:

“In the end, it’s about love and living with grace.”

Those words were never the end — they were the beginning of a new chapter; they planted the seed for my next book.

Thank you for being part of this story so far… the next chapter is on its way.

If Slow Butterfly has been valuable to you, I’d be grateful if you could share your thoughts in a quick Amazon review—your feedback helps others discover the book and its message. Thank you. 🦋🌟💙🙏
