One thing that's important to me is respecting the privacy and dignity of the people I support.
While I know photos and videos of clients can be a powerful marketing tool, I've personally chosen not to use my clients' images on social media. At times, that can make it harder to show what support work actually looks like and the positive experiences we share throughout the week.
So today I've put together a short video from an outing with one of my original clients, Blake, without showing his image.
Some of Blake's goals include increasing his confidence accessing the community, developing planning and time management skills, learning to budget, and improving his fitness and overall wellbeing.
Today's session was completely planned by Blake. He chose to go for a hike in the Blue Mountains, play a round of Aqua Golf, visit a few shops and grab some lunch afterwards.
One of the most rewarding parts of support work is seeing a young person gradually take ownership of their sessions, make decisions independently, and build the confidence to pursue the things they enjoy.
It's not always about the big milestones. Sometimes it's simply about creating opportunities, building skills, and having a great day out in the community.
