If you’re parenting a child with a PDA profile, there’s a good chance you’ve stood in front of a reward chart that cost you time, effort, and hope, and watched it make absolutely no difference.

That’s because it was a mismatch between the tool and the nervous system you’re working with.

Reward charts are built on the assumption that motivation is the missing piece. But for PDA children, motivation isn’t the issue.

The chart itself (the expectation sitting on the wall, the pressure of the streak, the weight of the days they couldn’t manage) is just another demand. And demands, even positive ones, are exactly what a PDA nervous system is wired to push back against.

What helps instead is reducing pressure rather than adding to it. Declarative language. Genuine choices. Playfulness. Flexibility on the harder days. These aren’t about lowering the bar. They’re about understanding what your child’s nervous system actually needs to feel safe enough to cooperate.

Save this for the parents who need to hear it. And if you want to go deeper, comment “PDA” below. 💛

And somehow, nobody ever connected the dots 😅.

Because ADHD in girls rarely looks like the hyperactive little boy who can’t sit still. It looks like the girl who tried so hard to hold it together that everyone assumed she was fine.

It looks like:

Managing everything on the outside while quietly drowning on the inside.

Being called bright but inconsistent. Sensitive. Scatty. A lot.

Getting through school on sheer willpower and then hitting a wall in adulthood when the structure falls away.

Feeling like you’re constantly failing at things that seem to come easily to everyone else, and having no idea why.

The average age of ADHD diagnosis for boys is around eight. For women, it’s 35.

That’s decades of masking, being misunderstood, and internalising “what is wrong with me?” when the real question was always “why didn’t anyone see this sooner?”

If any of this is landing a little too close to home (for you, or for a daughter you’re watching navigate the same path), our Nurture Your ADHD Self masterclass was made for exactly this.

On demand. $30. Watch whenever you’re ready.

There was never anything to “fix.”

Neurodivergent children don’t need to be changed into someone they’re not. They need to be understood, supported, and accepted for who they are.

Because when we stop asking, “How do we make this child fit in?” and start asking, “What does this child need to thrive?” everything changes.

23/07/2026

“Have you tried a sticker chart?”

“Maybe you just need to be more consistent.”

“All kids go through this.”

“They just need firmer boundaries.”

We know it comes from a good place. We really do.

But parenting a neurodivergent child isn’t a discipline problem. It’s not a consistency problem. It’s not something that a good routine and a reward chart will sort out.

It’s a different brain, navigating a world that wasn’t designed for it , with a parent working overtime to understand, advocate, and adapt every single day.

If you’re in this and you know you’re in this, drop a 🙋 in the comments.

We see you. 🌻

If you’re parenting a child with a PDA profile, you’ve probably already discovered that the strategies that work for most kids don’t work for yours.

The reward charts. The clear boundaries. The consistent consequences. You’ve tried them all, and somehow things got harder, not easier.

That’s not because you’re doing it wrong. It’s because those approaches were never designed for a nervous system like your child’s.

A low-demand environment isn’t about having no structure. It’s about understanding that for a PDA child, the sheer volume of everyday requests — get dressed, eat breakfast, put your shoes on — can accumulate into a level of pressure that the nervous system interprets as a threat.

And once that threshold is crossed, the response isn’t a choice. It’s survival.

Small shifts in how you communicate, how you offer choices, and how you think about your home environment can make a profound difference, not just for your child, but for the whole family.

Save this one. And if you want the full picture, comment “PDA” below. 💛

Loving someone with ADHD can feel confusing sometimes.

Not because they don’t love you back, but because the way their brain works can look, from the outside, like forgetfulness, inconsistency, or not listening.

And without understanding what’s actually happening underneath, it’s easy to take it personally.

The ADHD brain isn’t choosing to zone out mid-conversation, forget the thing you asked twice, or go from zero to overwhelmed in sixty seconds.

It’s navigating a nervous system that processes the world very differently. One where emotional regulation, working memory, and follow-through require a level of effort that isn’t always visible.

When you understand that, everything shifts. You stop interpreting their behaviour as a reflection of how much they care. You start responding with curiosity instead of frustration. And that shift. more than any system or strategy. is what actually builds connection.

If you want to understand your ADHD partner at a deeper level, our Nurture Your ADHD Partner masterclass was made for this. On demand, $30, watch whenever works for you.
