Pain during in*******se is something many women experience. It is not considered normal and can be a sign that there may be more going on.

For some women, pain has been present since their very first sexual experience, whilst others may develop pain later in life.

There can be many different contributing factors and symptoms can vary greatly from person to person. This may be a sign to seek further support or assessment.

Sometimes symptoms become something we gradually learn to work around or put to the side while caring for everyone else.

Over time, they can become so familiar that we stop noticing how much they are affecting us.

“I’ve been doing my pelvic floor exercises, but I thought this would have improved by now.”

This is an important point to make.

In the early stages, changes in awareness, coordination and muscle tone can happen within the first few weeks.

But changes in muscle strength, tissue support and longer-term symptom improvement generally take much longer and require ongoing consistent training.

For many women, this process can take months rather than weeks.

Progress is not always a straight line.

The name PhysioSpec was chosen to reflect a clinic that provides a physiotherapy “specific” focus on continence and pelvic health.

Rather than offering everything broadly, it was always intended to be a space dedicated to women’s pelvic health physiotherapy.

Over time, it has come to represent more than the clinical focus alone.

“I haven’t been doing my exercises as much as I should have, so I’ve been trying to do more each day to make up for it.”

Have you been here?

Trying to do more can feel like the obvious way to catch up, but it can sometimes change the intention of the exercises altogether.

Consistency, even in smaller amounts, tends to be more helpful than trying to make up for missed days.

A pelvic floor assessment before and during pregnancy can be helpful earlier than you expect.

It can give you a clearer understanding of how your pelvic floor is functioning and build awareness of both a contraction and relaxation.

It may also highlight any areas that need a little more support along the way.

Just as importantly, it creates space to talk through what to expect and how to approach both pregnancy and recovery in a way that feels informed rather than uncertain.

There are often practical things that sit behind delaying an appointment.

Organising care for children.
Work commitments.
Trying to find time.
Only remembering late at night or while you’re driving.

It’s rarely just about deciding to book.

Part of the process is working out how care can fit into what already feels like a full schedule.

It doesn’t have to be all figured out before you start.
