Spring has arrived 🌱☀️
With spring here in Tamworth, it’s a good time to start thinking about the warmer months ahead.
If you spend a lot of time outdoors, have a camping or fishing trip planned, or are heading away, you might be wondering whether you should get vaccinated against Japanese Encephalitis (JE). 🦟
JE is spread by mosquitoes and is mainly found in areas where mosquitoes come into contact with pigs, horses and waterbirds. It cannot be spread from person to person or by eating pork or pig products.
Not everyone needs the vaccine, but depending on where you live, work, travel and how much time you spend outdoors, it may be worth considering.
The best way to prevent JE is to avoid mosquito bites. Use mozzie repellent, wear long sleeves and loose clothing, and use mosquito nets or screens when needed. 🧴
If you’re not sure whether vaccination is recommended for you, come and have a chat with your GP. We can talk through your plans and your risk.
Sometimes it’s the things we don’t think about before a trip that are worth checking. 🌿
