This post is all human, written by Dr Ed (no AI).
Every time I walk down the dog food aisle in the supermarket, I shake my head and feel ANGRY.
Shiny, glossy packets.
Pictures of healthy, glossy dogs (most dogs I see that are on kibble are fat, dull-coated, itchy, and don't look great).
Then there are images of fresh meat (most kibble has no fresh meat at all, only meat and bone meals, which are deep-fried junk food rubbish).
And images of vegetables, herbs, and maybe superfoods like blueberries.
The packets are telling you that inside, there is real fresh meat, and real fresh ingredients. In amounts that make are meaningful!
But when you read the ingredient list, you find that there is no fresh meat, and such TINY amounts of the other pictured ingredients that they might as well not be there at all.
They are marketing ingredients. Just enough you can say they are in the packet without lying, but in such TINY amounts that they are so diluted that they are not MEANINGFUL INGREDIENTS at all.
This is like you putting one grain of salt in your bowl of soup. Technically, there would be salt on the ingredient list. But practically, you wouldn't be able to taste it. It would be a meaningless ingredient.
ALWAYS READ THE INGREDIENT LIST!
Even the 'premium' processed foods all do this.
Like this I just pulled out of a real food ingredient list: Lamb Meal, Legumes (beans & lupins), Sorghum, Tallow, Beet Pulp, Added Vitamins & Minerals, Natural Flavouring, Chicory Root Extract, DHA (derived from algae), Choline, Chia Seeds, Carrot, Natural Antioxidants with Rosemary
Largest amounts come first, in order. Everything after 'Added Vitamins and Minerals' I would call meaningless. You might notice CARROT is the second last ingredient. TINY amounts.
The packet for this one had fresh meat pictures - but look - 'Lamb Meal' only on the list.
Don't be tricked. Read the labels.
