Growth Mindset Swap 💭

Sometimes, a small change in our words can make a big difference in the way children think about learning.

Instead of using language that suggests abilities are fixed, we can encourage children to see challenges as opportunities to grow.

For example:

❌ “I can’t do this.”
✅ “I can’t do this yet.”

That one little word, yet, reminds children that they are still learning and that improvement comes with effort, practise and persistence.

Research by psychologist Dr Carol Dweck has shown that when children believe their abilities can develop through effort, effective strategies and support, they are more likely to embrace challenges, persist after setbacks and continue learning.

The goal isn’t to ignore that something is difficult. It’s to help children believe they can improve.

Mistakes are not the end of learning. They’re where learning begins. 💛

The words we use after our children make a mistake can have a lasting impact on how they think about themselves and their ability to learn.

Instead of focusing on what went wrong, try using language that encourages reflection, effort and perseverance.

When children hear messages like:
⭐ “What can we learn from this?”
⭐ “It’s okay to make mistakes.”
⭐ “What could you try differently next time?”

they begin to understand that mistakes are a normal and valuable part of learning.

Research by psychologist Dr Carol Dweck has shown that children are more likely to embrace challenges, persist through setbacks and continue learning when they believe their abilities can develop through effort, effective strategies and support, rather than being fixed.

Every conversation is an opportunity to help your child develop confidence, resilience and a growth mindset.

The words we use matter. 💛

It can be tempting to say, “You’re so smart!” But the way we praise children can influence how they respond to challenges.

Instead, try praising the process.

🌟 “You worked really hard on that.”
🌟 “What strategy did you use?”
🌟 “I noticed you didn’t give up.”
🌟 “Your practise is paying off.”
🌟 “What did you learn?”

Research by Harvard psychologist Dr Carol Dweck has shown that children who are praised for their effort are more likely to embrace challenges and keep trying after setbacks than children who are praised for being “smart.” When we focus on effort, strategies and persistence, we help children understand that abilities can grow with practise.

A growth mindset isn’t about getting everything right. It’s about believing we can learn, improve and grow through effort and practise.

💬 Which of these phrases will you try this week?

Why is a growth mindset important for children? 🌱🧠

A growth mindset helps children believe that their abilities can grow through effort, practise and perseverance. Rather than seeing challenges as something to avoid, they begin to see them as opportunities to learn.

When children develop a growth mindset, they are more likely to:

✨ Persevere when learning feels difficult.
✨ Learn from their mistakes.
✨ Build confidence through practise.
✨ Develop resilience after setbacks.
✨ Enjoy trying new things.

As parents, teachers and carers, we play an important role in shaping the way children think about learning. The words we use every day can help children develop the confidence to keep going, even when something feels hard.

Swipe through to discover five reasons why a growth mindset is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children. ➡️

💬 Which of these do you think is most important?

Every great discovery starts with a simple question.

Children are naturally curious. When they ask questions, they are exploring, learning and making sense of the world around them. Encouraging curiosity helps children develop confidence, problem-solving skills and a lifelong love of learning.

⭐ Questions help children learn new things.
⭐ Curiosity encourages creativity and imagination.
⭐ Asking questions develops critical thinking skills.
⭐ Exploration builds confidence and independence.
⭐ Every question opens the door to new discoveries.

The next time your child asks “why?”, remember that they are not just looking for an answer, they are growing their brain.

Every expert started somewhere.

They began by trying, practising, making mistakes and trying again. Each small effort helped them improve, build confidence and move one step closer to mastering their skill.

Encourage children to focus on progress, not perfection, and remind them that becoming good at something takes time.

⭐ Start as a beginner.
⭐ Keep practising.
⭐ Learn from mistakes.
⭐ Celebrate progress.
⭐ Believe you can improve.

Meet Remi Raccoon! 🦝💜

Remi teaches children that trying new things helps us feel brave.

Whether it’s learning a new skill, making a new friend, answering a question in class, or giving something a go for the very first time, every small step builds confidence and courage.

Children don’t need to feel fearless before they try. Real bravery happens when they take a deep breath and give it a go, even when something feels new, tricky, or a little scary.

Trying new things helps children grow, learn, and discover what they’re capable of.

What is something new your child has tried recently? 🌟
