⚠️Measles alert for Brisbane International Airport and Queensland Children's Hospital⚠️

Queensland Health has been notified of confirmed cases of measles infection who spent time at the following locations on Friday 17 July 2026:

* Singapore Airlines Flight SQ265 (Singapore to Brisbane) Fri 17 July 2026 7:20am- 4:50pm
* Brisbane International Airport Fri 17 July 2026 4:50pm – 6:45pm
*Queensland Children’s Hospital – Emergency Department
501 Stanley St, South Brisbane Fri 17 July & Sat 18 July 7:00pm (17-July) to 2:00pm (18-July)

Members of the public who were in these areas, on these dates, need to be alert for symptoms of measles for up to three weeks from the exposure date.

The initial symptoms of measles can include fever, lethargy, runny nose, moist cough and sore red eyes. This is followed a few days later by a blotchy, red rash which often starts on the face and then becomes widespread over the body.

If you have any of the measles symptoms, contact your GP or ED. It is very important to call the medical practice or ED first if you think you might have measles, so that staff can take precautions to avoid spreading it to others.

One of the most amazing things about pregnancy is that a mother’s body protects her baby in ways that continue even after birth.

vaccination is recommended to expectant mothers from 28 weeks of pregnancy. This helps a woman create protective antibodies that are passed to her baby to protect them from severe RSV from birth through to around six months of age.

The same goes for whooping cough and influenza vaccines.

Speak with your healthcare professional about the right immunisations for you and your baby. Don’t let them go unprotected.

A man in his fifties from metropolitan Adelaide is in a stable condition in hospital, after being diagnosed with invasive meningococcal disease identified as serotype B.

SA Health has identified multiple people who have come in contact with the case and three people have been identified to receive clearance antibiotics to prevent further transmission.

Symptoms and signs of meningococcal disease can include headache, fever, vomiting, neck stiffness, and discomfort when looking at lights. A skin rash may occur, with tiny red or purple spots that soon spread and enlarge to look like fresh bruises.

At later stages of the illness, people may develop confusion and shock. In addition, young children may be fretful, difficult to wake and refuse to eat. They may have leg pain, cold hands and feet, and a high-pitched or moaning cry. Children may also have pale, blotchy or abnormally coloured skin.

If you notice any of these signs or symptoms, seek medical attention.

Year 10 students can receive free meningococcal B and ACWY vaccines at school through the School Immunisation Program.

The A, C, W and Y strains are all included in one vaccine. The B strain needs two doses of the vaccine to provide full protection.

Meningococcal infection is a serious medical emergency as it can be life threatening. It can cause severe scarring, loss of limbs, brain damage and even death.

Students can receive the free meningococcal vaccines if a completed consent form is returned to the school and consent is provided. Look out for the School Immunisation Program consent form, sign it and return it.
