What does courage look like in your life right now?

I’ve been sitting with this question recently, both in my reflections and through what we’ve been exploring together in classes.

When we think of courage, it’s easy to picture the bigger, more visible moments. Making a difficult decision or doing something despite being afraid. But I feel some of the courage we draw upon most often is much quieter.

Like the courage to pause and listen to ourselves,or to acknowledge when something doesn’t feel right. To stay present with discomfort rather than immediately trying to escape it. To admit that we feel afraid or uncertain without believing that means we aren’t capable of moving forward.

The root of the word courage is connected to the heart, so perhaps courage isn’t really about getting rid of fear. Perhaps it’s about how we remain in relationship with ourselves when fear is present.

This has been weaving into our exploration of ahimsa in class. Ahimsa is non-violence, an invitation towards care, reverence and compassion in the way we meet ourselves, each other and the world around us.

I feel this is where ahimsa and courage intertwine in our life.

Some fears are wise. They protect us and ask us to pay attention. But what about the fears that quietly begin shaping our lives? We wait until we feel ready or certain. We hold back from beginning something, changing something or allowing ourselves to be fully seen.

Perhaps courage is being willing to become curious about the difference.

We’re living through a time where uncertainty seems to be touching many parts of life. I don’t feel the answer is to become harder or learn not to feel it. Maybe the courage these times ask of us is a kind of emotional resilience; our capacity to stay with ourselves through uncertainty, to feel what is here without being consumed by it and to keep finding our best way through even when fear is present.
To notice how courage gathers slowly through the choices we make and the ways we keep showing up for ourselves.

What does courage look like in your life right now? And is there a fear you’re beginning to see differently?

How many of us are quietly carrying the pressure to be well, present, productive, calm, connected, healthy and available… yet still feel as though we’re not doing enough?

Somewhere along the way, balance became another thing we were expected to get right. Another quiet measure of whether we are coping, achieving or somehow “doing life well enough.”

Recently in our classes, we’ve been exploring the deeper meaning of balance.
Not balance as something fixed or perfect, but as something living. Something that shifts with the seasons of our lives. Something we are always in relationship with.

Alongside this, I’ve been reflecting on success and what it truly means to me.

It’s easy to become caught in the narrative that we should always be wanting more, doing more and becoming more. Perhaps it is part of our human nature to seek growth.

But perhaps the systems we live within also teach us never to feel satisfied. That success must be visible and look like productivity, achievement or accumulation.

So I’ve been sitting with these questions:

What does success really mean to me?
What does it feel like in my body?
What am I no longer willing to sacrifice in the name of it?

I’ve never found peace in growth that requires me to push beyond my means.
Nor in a version of success that asks me to sacrifice my health, my presence or the quality of my relationships.

Success, to me, is beginning to look more real, raw and honest.
It is time in true connection with my children, husband and my community.
It is walking upon the earth and remembering I belong to it.
It is feeling aligned with my dharma and the small daily ways I choose to live my purpose.
It is learning to accept, befriend all parts of myself.

I feel balance and success are deeply connected.

So here we are: beings who yearn for balance.
But what kind of balance are we truly seeking?

My heart is yearning for a new paradigm. One that is more human, honest, kind. One that remembers we are cyclical beings, not machines. A paradigm where balance is not measured by how much we can hold, but by how deeply we are listening.

Yoga continues to bring me full circle, home to the understanding that we already have what we need.

That perhaps we don’t need to become more worthy.
Perhaps we need to remember that we are already enough.

There are some teachers who simply teach techniques - and then there are teachers who quietly change the way you experience the practice itself.

Rachel is one of those teachers.

Over the years I’ve had the privilege of studying with Rachel through a number of her trainings . Each one has deepened not only my understanding of yoga, but my own life and personal practice.

What I’ve always appreciated is her ability to take the depth of the traditional teachings and present them in a way that feels grounded, relatable and genuinely applicable to everyday life. There is so much wisdom, but it never feels out of reach. It becomes something you learn to embody.

I’m also really honoured to be joining this year’s Foundations Yoga Teacher Training to share a session later in the program exploring the therapeutic power of sound, voice and vocal toning.

So if you’ve ever felt called to understand yoga beyond the physical postures… philosophy, breath, meditation, Ayurveda, or perhaps even one day teaching… I truly believe this training is worth exploring. It’s an intimate six-month immersion with just eight students, held over five retreat weekends on the beautiful South Coast, offering a rare opportunity to study yoga in depth within a supportive community.

✨ The free online information session is TONIGHT (Monday 13th) at 7pm via zoom.

If you’re even a little curious, I’d encourage you to jump on the Zoom, listen, ask questions to simply get a feel for whether it’s the right next step for you.
(Can’t make the call tonight? Register and you’ll get still get the recording).

If you’d like the registration link, send me a message and I’ll forward it to you OR find it via our stories today.

I truly can’t recommend Rachel’s guidance and her trainings highly enough.

Has life been feeling more saturated, tender, fast-moving recently?

The constant input, decisions, pressure to keep up, that quiet weight we all carry - and sometimes the pressure we allow or place on ourselves to be more, do more, hold more.

This is why our practices and our rituals are integral.
A way of building physiological immunity- so we can move through this world with heart, grit, grace, spiritual discernment and have the capacity to notice the glimmers.

Stepping away from the onslaught to our senses is not a luxury.
It is part of how we tend to our inner life.

To choose joy where we can. To keep returning to what is real.
The shala is a space for this.

A space to breathe open. To remember your inner resource.
To fortify inner strength, focus, grit, grace.

To meet this precious life with steadiness.

Please note: This offering is being held at in Corrimal, not at My Yoga Space.

As we move toward the Winter Solstice, nature quietly reminds us that there are seasons for gathering our energy inward.
Seasons for slowing down.
For listening beneath the noise.
For tending what is often overlooked in the busyness of everyday life.

The Winter Solstice marks the longest night of the year. A time honoured across many traditions as an invitation to pause, reflect and reconnect with what truly nourishes us.

I’m honoured to be joining at Kai Yoga for this special afternoon of rest, reflection and sound.

Together we’ll create a space to soften into winter’s rhythm through gentle yin yoga, guided meditation, immersive sound healing, contemplation and deep rest.

Simply to remember the medicine that becomes available when we slow down enough to listen.

If you’ve been feeling the call to step away from constant doing and into a more spacious way of being, we’d love to welcome you.

As winter draws closer, I’m tending the practice of pratyāhāra.
Often translated as “withdrawal of the senses”, I experience it more as a remembering. A remembering that we do not always need to keep taking more in.

Through the eyes, ears, conversations, responsibilities, screens and the constant stream of information around us, we are always receiving and responding. Over time, this outward movement can leave us feeling scattered, depleted or disconnected from the quieter wisdom within.

Pratyāhāra offers another way.

Not an escape from the world, but a conscious return to ourselves. A softening of the pull of external distractions so we can rest our awareness in something deeper.

This is where practice becomes less about adding more to our lives, and more about creating a space where we can finally exhale.

This is one of the reasons I love practices such as mantra and chanting. The mind becomes less occupied with what is happening around us and more absorbed in the vibration of sound, the rhythm of the breath and the stillness that exists beneath it all.

As we approach the Winter Solstice, this teaching feels especially potent. The season itself invites us inward. To gather our energy rather than scatter it. To tend the inner flame of the spiritual heart. To listen more deeply.

Winter reminds us that not all growth happens in the light.
Some of the most meaningful transformations occur quietly, in the unseen places within.
