𝗞𝗢𝗧𝗦𝗨𝗔𝗚𝗘 ‘𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗲-𝗣𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴’ 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 ⁣

We recently assisted a Japanese family to have a version of the traditional Japanese Kotsuage ceremony, and we were struck by the immediacy and deeply moving reality of this experience.⁣
⁣
Although it wasn’t possible to have exactly the same rendering of the ceremony as in Japan - our cremators are very different and here less full bones are left; they also come out more jumbled up due to the machines - even so, we worked closely with the team at GMCT to try and meet the wishes of the family to find the hyoid bone - which is very precious because it’s the bone that is linked to a person’s voice and speech.⁣
⁣
This process of sorting bones and gathering some up to be kept is both beautiful and wrenching. Through this act we really understand what ‘ashes’ are. We must confront the depth of loss and also that we are here with the relics of our person.⁣
⁣
It made us think that perhaps this ceremony is not cultural so much as it could be universal. It is a deeply human experience.⁣
⁣
So we would like you to know we can offer this to you should you need or want this, and can tailor it to what feels right.⁣
⁣
As Kimba is also deeply connected to Japanese culture and language, we are soon going to have an offering for Japanese families beginning with a page explaining our offerings in Japanese. Kimba can also offer small sections of ceremony in Japanese and we have a livestream service with Japanese subtitling.⁣

What is ‘personalisation’⁣?
⁣
Not our favourite word because it implies that you’re surface coating something that’s already set.⁣
⁣
Let’s be real, most funerals are going to have music, speakers, a slideshow, and probably in that order. It works! ⁣
⁣
But what about the rest? How do you really infuse a person’s soul and vibe into the day? ⁣
⁣
This is where we really shine and how? Because we listen, get creative, empower families to bring the wild, wacky, weird and tender elements.⁣
⁣
For Mark, the lolly bags were already set, but as we talked the footy card idea appeared -full brainstorm energy by all of us. Then when those shorts arrived- we were on a roll! ⁣
⁣
The juicy fruit took us straight to the 80’s - Mark’s golden era! That and the Bryan Adams/Richard Marx\Whitney power ballad triad.⁣

Well, the coffins are ordered and are gorgeous, the permit for The After Party is finally IN, so all stations are GO there to get the venue up and running, and our amazing team are holding the fort while we enjoy a last day together in China - looking forwards, looking back and being in this moment.⁣
⁣
Feeling proud, excited, inspired and also loving the foreignness of this time and place.⁣
⁣
Thanks one and all for the support, trusting your precious peeps to us for their farewells, and for tolerating our cute goofy weirdness⁣

We have long had a dream of finding our own coffins - working closely with a supplier we have met, built a relationship with, and whose practices we have verified personally. ⁣
⁣
This wish has lead us from Indonesia to China where we have found our people! We got to meet the whole team and see the entire process of production.⁣
⁣
We’ve also designed our own custom models and sizes and can’t wait to offer these to our families. ⁣
⁣
