Just landed back from your European summer getaway? ✈️🌞😎 Before you jump straight back into Melbourne life, don’t forget to check in on your feet! 👣

After weeks of walking miles on cobblestones, wearing sandals or flip flops, and spending time around pools, beaches and hotel showers, your feet may be feeling the holiday hangover too. 😅

Here are some common post holiday foot issues to look out for:

👣 Heel pain & plantar fasciitis: Long days walking on hard surfaces in unsupportive footwear can put extra strain on your feet.

🔥 Ball of foot pain: All those extra kilometres can lead to inflammation, bruising and soreness under the forefoot.

🦶 Ankle strains: Cobblestones, uneven paving and hiking trails can take their toll.

💧 Cracked heels & fissures: Dry summer weather and open footwear can leave skin dehydrated, thickened and prone to splitting.

🦠 Tinea & fungal nails: Warm, humid conditions plus shared showers, pools and beaches can create the perfect environment for fungal infections.

👟 Blisters & corns: Going from loose holiday footwear back into enclosed winter shoes can create new pressure and friction points.

Just returned from a Eurosummer adventure and want to get your feet ready for an unpredictable Aussie spring & summer? 🌤️ Read the full blog on our website!

If you’re dealing with any of the above, our friendly Podiatrists in Thornbury can help. 👣

Elsa from Frozen : "The cold never bothered me anyway.... but the CHILBLAINS do!" ❄️🎵

If Elsa from Frozen were a real human living in her ice castle, she’d be the ultimate patient at our Podiatry clinic in Thornbury! 🏰🦶❄️🌨

From a medical standpoint, her icy palace satisfies every risk factor for chilblains (which are painful, itchy skin bumps caused by cold, damp conditions):

🔹 Damp & Cold Air: Ice castles are high-humidity zones = the perfect breeding ground for chilblains.
🔹 Tight Ice Shoes: Narrow, uninsulated heels restrict blood flow to the toes.
🔹 Rapid Temperature Swings: Going from freezing snow to a sudden warm room causes blood vessels to swell and leak fluid into the skin.

How to avoid Elsa's (hypothetical) fate:
1️⃣ Wear loose, layered socks (no tight footwear!).
2️⃣ Keep your feet dry.
3️⃣ Warm up cold feet slowly - never put them directly on a heater or under hot water.

KeryFlex is here to "save" your toenails - it's a painless, in clinic cosmetic treatment that uses medical grade resin and UV light to restore the appearance of damaged, discoloured or brittle toenails.

Applied by podiatrists, it creates a flexible, durable and natural looking artificial nail while your natural nail grows underneath.

The KeryFlex Nail Restoration System is applied in a few steps:

1. Preparation: The podiatrist trims, thins and cleans the damaged nail.

2. Bonding & Resin: A bonding agent is applied, followed by layers of medical grade, sculptable resin.

3. UV Curing: UV light hardens and seals the resin, creating a non porous, non permeable nail.

Key Benefits:

✨ Immediate improvement: Creates a healthy looking nail in one session.

🦶 Flexible & durable: KeryFlex bends with your natural toe movements, unlike rigid acrylics.

💧 Waterproof: You can shower and swim normally.

🛡️ Antifungal: The resin contains Piroctone, an antifungal ingredient.

⏳ Long lasting: Typically stays intact for 6 to 10 weeks.

Who is KeryFlex for?
It can be suitable for nails affected by:

• Toenail fungus
• Trauma or injury
• Thick, discoloured or crumbling nails
• Deformed or misshapen nails
• Split or brittle nails
• Nail defects, spoon shaped nails or thinning
• Psoriasis

At Talaria Podiatry in Thornbury, KeryFlex is applied by Podiatrists using medical grade resin. The nail can be filed, painted and polished immediately, and its flexibility makes it suitable for active lifestyles.

We also assess the underlying cause of your nail damage and can combine KeryFlex with targeted antifungal treatments or personalised care where appropriate.

Important: KeryFlex is a cosmetic restoration, not a cure for the underlying condition. It is also not suitable for everyone, so a podiatry assessment is important.

We aren't saying don't wear your UGGs, just avoid wearing them all the time! But they can easily leave you feeling UGH! 😩🦶

Melbourne weather usually calls us to stay at home in your trusty UGG boots. Whether you’re lounging on the couch or working from home, they might feel like the ultimate comfort item. But here’s the catch - while they might feel good in the moment, wearing them too often can cause trouble for your feet & body. You can read all about “UGG Boot Syndrome” in our blog - link in bio! 📲 💻

The main issue with UGG Boots? They provide basically zero support for your feet. And the cheaper they are, the worse they are. Yes, they feel cosy, warm & like a little treat for your feet – but you’re doing them more damage than good. 😩🦶

Overuse of UGGs & cheap slippers can lead to a condition called ‘Plantar Fasciitis’. If you find yourself struggling in the mornings, such as limping for your first steps out of bed – this can be a warning sign. ⚠️

Another unsightly side effect is called “Crumpet Foot”. As it sounds, the sweaty & fluffy environment of thick UGGs can cause your feet to look crinkled like crumpets, and this environment can lead to Tinea infections. 🤢

When you start to notice your UGGs smelling or looking a bit sad, it’s time to chuck them! And if you experience pain, colour changes or spots on your feet from overuse - consult a Podiatrist ASAP! Book Online or Call Us on 9480 4935 💻📞

Another risk of UGGs is their lack of grip can lead to falls & slips! 😰

Investing in a good pair of supportive slippers or slide, such as Archline Orthotic Slippers or Archies Slides - if you have your heart set on wearing slippers or slides with socks we don’t blame you - these are Podiatrist recommended! ✅

We stock Archies in store - come & see us! 🤍🦶🥿 ✨

It's - did you know its very important for people living with Diabetes to keep their foot health in check with Podiatry care? 😮❗

Regular podiatry care is vital for people with diabetes because high blood glucose can cause nerve damage and poor circulation. This combination severely reduces the ability to feel foot injuries (neuropathy) and slows down healing, turning minor blisters or cuts into major risks for ulcers and infections that require urgent monitoring. Podiatrists play a critical role in preventing severe complications—such as infections or amputations - by identifying hidden risks early and maintaining healthy feet. 🥰👣

For more info on Diabetes and your foot health you can read some of the blogs on our website!
