Think you need to go to the gym to build strength and transform your body? Think again! 💪
You don't need to get up at 4am, spend hours at the gym or rearrange your entire life to become stronger, fitter and healthier.
I see so many young female fitness influencers on social media showing their perfectly organised fridges, beautifully prepared meals and impressive exercise routines. And that's lovely, but let's be real. For many of them, fitness is their job and they only have themselves to look after.
How many of us can say that's true of our lives?
Once you have children, a career and other responsibilities, finding time to exercise can become a real challenge. And as any teacher will tell you, lunch hours aren't even a real thing! 😂
But here's what I know from my own experience. You CAN transform your body without ever setting foot in a gym.
You don't need fancy equipment, an expensive membership or hours of spare time. You can build strength and fitness in the comfort of your own home, with a routine that actually fits into your life.
That's exactly why I run my strength and fitness classes on Zoom after school. There's time to get home, get changed, start dinner, do the class and finish preparing dinner afterwards.
No travelling to the gym. No feeling intimidated by unfamiliar equipment or comparing yourself with everyone else.
Just regular, effective exercise that helps you become stronger, fitter and more confident.
Because exercise should fit into your life, not the other way around!
💬 I'd love to know, what's the biggest thing that stops you from doing regular strength training? Is it time, confidence, not knowing what to do, or something else?

If you're WAITING to feel motivated before you start losing weight, you could be waiting a VERY long time!
"I just need to get motivated!"
I hear that from women all the time.
But MOTIVATION IS A FEELING. And feelings come and go!
So what happens when we don't FEEL like doing what we'd planned?
That's why I believe we need something more powerful.
A really BIG, deep and meaningful WHY!
Not just "I want to lose 10 kilos."
WHY do you want to lose them? What will that make possible in your LIFE?
I know because I've been there.
When I decided to lose weight and get fitter and stronger, I had one VERY compelling reason.
I wanted to play tennis without getting so hot, bothered and red in the face!
I wanted to ENJOY myself on the court.
That was my WHY.
But I also needed a SYSTEM.
I planned my meals, exercised regularly and measured my progress.
The scales. The tape measure. The way my clothes fitted.
And do you know what?
I began to see TINY changes. Sometimes they were absolutely INFINITESIMAL!
But I was ECSTATIC! 🎉
Those little results showed me my efforts were working. And that motivated me to keep going.
Eventually, my jeans were so loose and baggy I had to buy new ones!
You see, I didn't wait to feel motivated.
I took ACTION, saw results, and found MORE motivation along the way.
💕 My WHY gave me a reason to BEGIN.
💪 My SYSTEM helped me stay CONSISTENT.
🎉 My RESULTS encouraged me to KEEP GOING.
Progress isn't just a number on the scales. It might be getting stronger, walking further or having more energy.
So, what's YOUR big, deep and meaningful WHY?
What will achieving your goal actually mean for your LIFE?
I'd love you to tell me in the comments. 💕

Have you ever walked into a gym and felt like you didn't belong there?
All those machines. All those mirrors. All those incredibly fit-looking people who seem to know EXACTLY what they're doing!
It can be pretty intimidating!
But here's something I want every woman to know. You don't have to set foot inside a gym to get STRONG!
And you certainly don't have to be fit BEFORE you start exercising!
I know what it's like to feel intimidated by gyms because I used to feel that way myself.
Then I became a Personal Trainer and actually got to work behind the scenes in one of the big gyms in town.
And do you know what?
In the end, I realised that environment just wasn't for me.
I've noticed that gyms often have young, extremely fit-looking people working at the front desk.
And while there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, I sometimes wonder whether gym owners realise how intimidating that can feel to a woman who's older, overweight, unfit or just starting out.
She might already feel uncomfortable about her body.
She might be worried that everyone will be looking at her.
Or perhaps she's simply frightened that she won't be able to keep up.
Then along came COVID.
I took my strength and fitness classes ONLINE, and I've never looked back!
The ladies in my classes absolutely LOVE being able to exercise in their own homes.
Especially in WINTER!
No driving to the gym in the cold and dark. No worrying about what to wear. No feeling self-conscious about who's watching.
Just us, getting stronger and fitter together, from the comfort of our own homes.
And because I know there are so many women who either CAN'T get to a gym or simply don't WANT to, I've started a beginner strength training group.
It's for women who want to build strength but need somewhere comfortable and supportive to begin.
And I received a message from one of the ladies that absolutely made my day!
She wrote:
"Interestingly on Friday after the workout I felt energized!! I've always heard that's how you're supposed to feel afterwards, but I never have. I've always felt exhausted & that I might be allergic to exercise 😆 That's why I've never kept it up. This time it's different, I feel good, what a difference!!"
I LOVE that!
And then she sent me another message.
"I did Week 4 3 times & walked every day. 3 people have told me I look like I've lost weight woohoo!!"
How fabulous is that?!
But do you know what excites me even more than the possibility that she's lost weight?
She's discovered that exercise can actually make her feel GOOD!
She's enjoying it.
She's doing the workouts regularly.
She's walking every day.
And perhaps most importantly, she's starting to see herself as someone who CAN exercise and get stronger.
That is HUGE!
Because strength training isn't just for young, fit people who love going to the gym.
It's for ALL of us.
Especially as we get older.
We need our muscles to help us maintain our independence, support our bones, improve our balance and keep doing all those wonderful things we want to do in life.
And you don't need to exhaust yourself or push yourself to your absolute limits to make progress.
You can start where you are, work at your own level and gradually build up your strength and confidence.
You don't have to get fit to START. You start so you can GET fit!
And you don't need a gym membership to do it.
💕 I'm curious. Have you ever felt intimidated by the thought of going to a gym?
Or perhaps you've avoided strength training because you thought you weren't fit enough?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
And if you'd love to start building your strength from the comfort of your own home, send me a message with the word STRONG, and I'll tell you about my beginner strength training program.

Why do our healthy eating plans go straight out the window when life gets busy?
We've got the best intentions. We've made a plan. We KNOW what we want to do.
But then something happens, life gets busy, and suddenly we're back at the chicken shop wondering what on earth we're going to have for dinner!
Well, there's actually a very good reason this happens, and it might surprise you!
Someone recently told me a story about going to the chicken shop yesterday and then going back AGAIN today.
When the shop owner commented on it, his reply was that his head was so full of other things that he simply wasn't thinking about tomorrow or the next day.
And I thought, YES! That's exactly what happens!
Our brains are AMAZING, but they're not limitless.
Research suggests that our working memory, the part of our brain that holds information we're actively thinking about, can manage around FOUR chunks of information at once.
Now, think about all the things you're trying to juggle.
Work, family, appointments, shopping, paying bills, looking after ageing parents, keeping up with everything at home.
And somewhere amongst all of that, you're expecting yourself to remember your healthy eating plan!
No wonder the best-laid plans sometimes go awry!
I'll give you an example from my own life.
If I have to do something out of the ordinary on my way home from work, I KNOW there's a very good chance I'll forget.
I'll be driving home on autopilot, thinking about everything that's happened during the day.
And I'll sail straight past the Post Office where I was supposed to collect a parcel!
So now I give myself a BIG, VISIBLE CUE.
I'll tuck the collection card somewhere safely on my dashboard where I'll see it, without covering anything important.
And it works!
So why don't we do the same thing with our healthy eating habits?
Instead of expecting our poor, overloaded brains to remember everything, we can make things EASIER.
🥗 Put your meal plan somewhere you'll see it every day.
🥚 Keep some easy protein options in the fridge.
🛒 Write your shopping list BEFORE you run out of food.
🍗 Cook enough dinner to have leftovers for another meal.
📱 Set a reminder to take something out of the freezer.
These are such simple things, but they can make a huge difference.
Because when our brains are busy dealing with more immediate concerns, our healthy eating plans can easily get pushed aside.
And that's why I believe the answer isn't always more motivation or willpower.
It's about creating healthy habits and routines that make life EASIER.
The more automatic we can make those habits, the less we have to rely on our memory when life gets busy.
And let's face it, life is ALWAYS going to get busy at some point!
So perhaps the answer isn't to try HARDER. Perhaps it's to make things EASIER!
I'm curious.
What's the FIRST healthy habit that flies out the window when your life gets really busy?
Is it meal planning, exercise, preparing healthy meals, or something else?
Tell me in the comments. I'd love to know! 💕

Are you an aggressive, passive, passive-aggressive, or assertive listener?

As part of our foray into Podcasting, Michele and I went to an in-person business networking lunch yesterday, and the main speaker was Leah Mether.

She was fantastic.

Funny, engaging, practical, and very easy to listen to.

Her topic was communication, and one of the handouts included a quiz to help us identify our go-to communication style.

I thought I knew mine, but after doing the quiz, I realised something quite powerful.

I have changed. Not perfectly and not completely.

There are still things I would like to improve.

But I could see that I am no longer the person I used to be when it comes to communication.

I ask for help when I need it.
I say no with confidence.
I am more likely to pause and respond, rather than react.

And honestly, that felt like a big little moment.

Because so often we focus on how far we still have to go.

We forget to look back and say:
“Actually, I have grown.”
That matters.

Leah also donated her speaker fee to a local organisation, which I thought was such a generous thing to do.

And I loved that she proudly talks about being based in Gippsland. It made me feel proud too.

We really do have so much talent, heart, and wisdom in our own backyard.

What about you?

Would you say your natural communication style is passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive, or assertive?

And has it changed over the years?

Podcast recording day! 🎙️
I thought I was so fancy.
I had 3 webcams connected to a powered USB hub. I was using OBS to switch between the shots. I had even added my Stream Deck so all I had to do was push the buttons.
And the funny thing is, that part actually worked.
The buttons worked.
The camera switching worked.
I felt like I was running a tiny little television studio from my desk.
However, I failed to record the first take.
After all the setting up, all the talking, all the effort, I realised we did not actually have a recording.
Nothing.
Not a thing.
As we were talking, I remembered the Optimist’s Creed that used to be painted as a mural on the side of Downyflake Donuts at Chadstone many moons ago.
“As you ramble on thru’ life, Brother Whatever be your goal, Keep your Eye upon the Doughnut And not upon the Hole.”
That absolutely cracked Michele up.
But it was so apt.
Because I had a choice.
I could have focused on the hole.
The lost recording.
The wasted time.
The frustration.
The fact that I had managed to set up three webcams, OBS and a Stream Deck, but somehow missed the rather important part where you actually press record.
Or I could focus on the doughnut.
And the doughnut was this:
The technology was working.
The Stream Deck was working.
The camera angles were set.
We had already had a great conversation.
We were warmed up.
We knew what we wanted to say.
And we could simply record it again.
That is such a good reminder, isn’t it?
Sometimes we can do so much right, but then one thing goes wrong and our brain wants to make that the whole story.
But it is not the whole story.
It is just the hole.
And if we stare at the hole for too long, we miss the doughnut.
So I made us another cup of tea, reset everything, and we got ready for the next recording.
No drama.
No giving up.
Just a cup of tea, a reset, and another go.
This applies to so many things.
Your health.
Your exercise.
Your eating.
Your business.
Your relationships.
Your day.
One missed workout does not mean you have failed.
One overeating moment does not undo all your progress.
One messy day does not mean you should give up.
One mistake does not get to become the whole story.
You can make a cup of tea.
You can reset.
You can go again.
Keep your eye upon the doughnut, not upon the hole. 🍩
Where in your life do you need to stop focusing on the hole and start noticing the doughnut?

I could post this every single day.

If you’re a woman in midlife and you’re trying to lose weight, feel stronger, have more energy and age well, please don’t overlook muscle.

I am a big, big, big believer that muscle mass, along with cardiovascular fitness, is the longevity holy grail.

When you build lean muscle, it’s MOVING that muscle that mops up a lot of the nutrition you consume.

So if you build muscle through strength, resistance or weight training, and then you move your body with low intensity movement like walking, it’s like you’re taking your V8 for a drive.

Think about it.

These days, we’re all worried about the cost of fuel.
So which car would use more fuel for the same journey?
A 4 cylinder or a V8?
A little lunch box or a yank tank?
The bigger the engine, the more fuel it is going to consume, right?
Your body works in a similar way.

When you build muscle, your body becomes more like a V8. It has more engine. More capacity. More beautiful, fuel-using tissue.

Then, when you move that body, even with simple movement, your body has more muscle to move.

You don’t have to race it around Mt Panorama all day.
You don’t have to do punishing workouts or exhaust yourself.
You could just be taking it into town to do the weekly shop. You could be walking. Gardening. Dancing in the kitchen. Doing a strength class. Getting your steps in.
But if you leave it in the garage, it won’t consume a drop.

That’s the part we can’t skip.

Build the muscle. Then move the muscle.

Strength training builds the engine. Walking and daily movement take it for a drive.
So if you’ve been thinking, “I just need to eat less,” I want to gently offer another thought.

Maybe your body doesn’t need less and less.

Maybe your body needs strength. Maybe your body needs muscle. Maybe your body needs movement that feels doable and sustainable.

Our bodies need to MOVE!

If this makes sense to you, comment V8 and tell me: are you currently strength training, walking, or doing both?

You don’t have to overeat at every social event to enjoy yourself. 🌷

This week, we had time to make the decision to eat a meal before the party began and I’m so glad we did.

It meant I arrived feeling satisfied and calm instead of hungry and tempted by all the extra food. 🍽️

These days, I really don’t need extra calories, so I decided ahead of time that I would have one drink and simply enjoy it. 🥂

And I did.

What I loved most was the feeling afterwards. I wasn’t deprived. I wasn’t “being good.” I was simply looking after myself while still being able to go to a party, connect with people and enjoy the night.

That feels like such an important shift.

So many women think healthy living means missing out. But often it’s just about making a few intentional decisions ahead of time so you can enjoy yourself without feeling uncomfortable afterwards.

It’s a subtle difference… but a powerful one. ✨

Do social events make healthy choices harder for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts below. 👇

Did you know it’s actually possible to lose weight through the holidays without feeling deprived? 🎄✨

Most women I speak to expect December and holiday periods to completely derail their progress.

They tell themselves: “I’ll just start again next month.”

But that stop-start cycle is exhausting.

One of my beautiful Masterclass clients recently shared this with me:

“You are a wonderful coach. Your guidance helped me lose weight easily through the holidays, naturally and without the aid of medications or supplements. While this often seems like an impossible task, you made the process feel simple.”

And honestly… that’s exactly what I want women to experience. 🌿

Not another complicated diet. Not obsession. Not guilt and shame.

Just simple, sustainable habits that work in real life.

When women learn how to calm their nervous system, nourish their body properly and create healthy routines they can actually maintain, everything begins to change.

Weight loss starts to feel lighter. Exercise becomes an act of self-care instead of punishment. And confidence slowly returns. 💕

If you’re ready to stop battling yourself and start creating a healthier lifestyle in a calm, supportive and non-judgemental environment, send me a DM with the word “CALM.” 🌸

The biggest difference a plan has made in my life isn’t just physical. It’s the calmness I now feel around food 💗
On Mother’s Day I went out for lunch with my family and it was such a lovely treat. Honestly, the best part was simply being together.
The food was delicious and nutritious too, but because I follow a plan, I already knew exactly what to order. There was no stress, overthinking or guilt attached to the experience.
The food I chose fit my plan, or was very close to it.
But the night before was completely different.
We were at a party where there was only finger food. The party started at 6pm and there wasn’t really a practical way to eat dinner beforehand.
Because this is a rare situation and because I stick to my plan most of the time, I didn’t worry too much about it.
As each platter came out, I simply had one of each. I didn’t overeat and I felt perfectly happy with what I ate.
Then the next day? I simply went back to my normal plan again.
No guilt. No punishment. No “I’ve blown it”.
That’s the difference a sustainable plan makes. It gives you structure without making life feel restrictive.
If you’d love to feel calmer and more confident around food, I’d love to help 💗
