What Happens During Your First Appointment?

Many people are surprised that we don’t just ask where it hurts and start massaging.

Your first appointment includes time to understand:

✔ Your health history

✔ Your lifestyle

✔ Your daily activities

✔ Your goals

✔ How your symptoms are affecting you

This information helps guide your treatment so that it matches your needs, rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

✨ A little Mountainside update…

Emma will be back in the clinic from 24–30 August and is looking forward to seeing you all again. 🤍

-⬇️👇 keep reading as bookings will be opened to book. Or call 0439470549

From 31 August, Emma will be taking a short break from the clinic for dental surgery, followed by her university clinical placement as she continues her osteopathy studies.

She will be back at Mountainside from 27 September and returning to the clinic for the remainder of the year.

Because availability will be a little limited over the coming weeks, we’re opening the booking calendar for the rest of 2026 so you can plan ahead.

📅 Bookings open Wednesday 12 August at 7pm.

If you know you’ll need regular appointments between now and Christmas, we recommend booking ahead to secure the days and times that suit you best.

Thank you, as always, for continuing to support Mountainside while Emma balances the clinic and her studies. It means so much. 🤍

Bookings go live at 7pm Wednesday 12 August.

Something special is returning to Mountainside.

We are excited to welcome Ultraderm professional skincare into the clinic this August.

Ultraderm was one of the original skincare ranges Emma trained with during her beauty therapy education. After years of working closely with clients and seeing how different every person’s skin can be, she has chosen to bring the range back to Mountainside.

This is not about adding another shelf of products. It is about providing trusted, professional homecare that can be selected for your individual skin concerns and used alongside our returning facial treatments.

Products arrive during August, with our new facial menu launching in October.

Message us to book a free consultation to talk about your skincare needs. Available online and in person.

Why We May Use Cupping

Cupping is another tool not the treatment itself.

Some people enjoy the sensation of decompression compared with the pressure of traditional massage.

Depending on your individual presentation, cupping may be used to complement other techniques within your treatment.

Those circular marks some people develop aren’t bruises, they’re a temporary response that varies from person to person, and many clients don’t mark at all.

Why We May Use Dry Needling

Dry needling isn’t about making treatment more painful.

When appropriate, it can be used alongside remedial massage to target specific muscles that may be contributing to pain or restricted movement.

Not every client needs dry needling.

Not every condition responds to dry needling.

It is simply one of many treatment options that may be suitable depending on your presentation, goals and preferences.

Why We May Use Hot Stones

Many people think hot stones are simply for relaxation.

While they certainly feel wonderful, warmth can also help muscles feel less guarded and prepare tissues for hands-on treatment.

For some people, introducing heat allows us to work more comfortably through tight muscles.

For others, it isn’t necessary at all.

That’s why every treatment is individual.

Why Don’t We Use The Same Techniques On Everyone?

Many people ask,

“Can I just have dry needling?”
or
“Can you do cupping today?”

The answer is…

Maybe, but only if it’s the right tool for your body.

Think of treatment techniques like tools in a toolbox.

A carpenter doesn’t use a hammer for every job.

Likewise, a remedial massage therapist doesn’t use one technique for every person.

Different techniques create different effects.

Sometimes firm hands-on massage is best.

Sometimes gentle movement is more appropriate.

Sometimes adding dry needling or cupping may complement your treatment.

It’s never about doing more.

It’s about doing what’s appropriate for you.

Every Body Is Different. Every Treatment Should Be Too.

One of the biggest misconceptions about massage therapy is that everyone receives the same treatment. 🤗

The reality is that no two people walk through our door with the same history, lifestyle or goals.

Someone with tight shoulders from working at a desk all day needs a different approach to a farmer lifting heavy items, a new mum feeding her baby every few hours, or an athlete recovering from competition.

That’s why every appointment at Mountainside Muscle Health begins with understanding you.

We look at:
• Your current symptoms
• Your daily activities
• Previous injuries
• Your movement
• Your treatment goals

From there, we choose the techniques that best suit your body not simply what’s popular.

Because personalised care leads to better outcomes.
