It’s no longer 2009 and I’m still out here defending soy.

Yes, it’s filled with isoflavones/plant oestrogens and for that reason it’s one of the first foods I reach for any time I support a woman over 35.
It’s functional, chosen for what it does, not what it’s worth on a label. And I prescribe it to buffer the drop-offs when oestrogen decides to bounce around.

Tofu is one of the highest isoflavone foods you can find and not only versatile but cheap. Cook until crispy and throw it into a salad, Konjac noodles, and a glass of pomey juice on the side and you’re doing some serious gut support.

This recipe Peanut & Tofu Thai Salad is straight from The Nutritional Handoff, launching soon. FINALLY.

There’s no before and after photos here. Just things that surprised her, things that no longer bother her, and things she had hoped for.

This is my daily. I love my job.

What is one sentence you wish you could say?

She couldn’t stay awake.

She couldn’t tell me how long it had been since she lost the feeling.

Her arms and legs vibrated all day long and she felt so weak that she couldn’t even help clean the house.

Coming from someone who had never falling a sleep before midnight.

Her main complaint was anxiety. By appointment three she completely forgot it was even an issue.

Her BP had been a huge concern for years. It’s not now.

She hated herself for yelling. This month she didn’t.

Perimenopause is a life transition, not a diagnosis. Somewhere along the way it became a prescription.

I get asked this constantly. Usually by a woman who’s just started reading about perimenopause and frightened herself stupid.

And I can’t tell her it’s not that bad, because sometimes it is. I’ve seen women whose bloods look textbook and who are still barely functioning.

Hormonal change is real, it’s disruptive, and it deserves better than “life’s rich tapestry, have a wine.”

But it’s the wrong question. The useful question is what’s driving each individual symptom — because it’s almost never all hormones.

Perimenopause doesn’t create gaps, it exposes them. Usually after decades of you coming last.

I miss the woo.

Not the lay-under-a-full-moon woo. I mean the confidence. When practitioners had a position, and it was theirs, and you could tell one from another. When being alternative meant something other than hair colour.

Scroll two posts down and it’s the same boring bs forty times over. Five tips for. What I eat in a day. How to balance your hormones. Pretty face, good lighting, nothing said. I’m not learning anything and no one is challenging a single thought inside of me.

Where did we lose ourselves?

We were the alternative, the collaborative. We were what women reached for when a ten-minute appointment and a quick script didn’t touch the sides.

Now we’re chasing an algo with no push back, I get it, the second you say something that isn’t pre-approved you get torn apart for it.

But that’s not being evidence-based. That’s just being scared.

I miss your opinions. I miss you.

Seven women said these to me. Separately. None of them knew about the others. And trust me there is more.

Every single one thought she was the only one.

That’s the part that gets me. Not the symptoms — I expect those. It’s that each woman arrives convinced she’s uniquely broken. That she’s the one who’s gone strange. She’s rehearsed how to say it so it sounds less alarming, and she still apologises halfway through.

Nine versions of the same sentence, and not one of them knew it was the same sentence.

You’re not the only one asking if it’s dementia. You’re not the only one who lost it over dinner. You’re not the only one awake at 3am running the audit.

There is a whole silent room of you.

As a perimenopause naturopath, this is the case that broke the rule I see repeated everywhere: that perimenopause is a progesterone story.

Hers wasn’t. Her oestrogen was at a good level for her stage. Four years of panels saying nothing was wrong. And every time a practitioner tried to bring her oestrogen down, her mood and memory fell off a cliff.

The levels were fine. She wasn’t.

I’ve written the whole case up properly — the follicular phase picture, what the receptor testing showed, the ADHD and vitamin D layers, and why “your levels are normal” kept being true and kept being useless. Link in bio.

New patient block open. Comment PERI and I’ll send you the details.
