The updated pneumococcal vaccine recommendations mean more Australians may now be eligible for protection.

The vaccine is recommended for:
🩺 Adults aged 65 years and over
🩺 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults aged 25 years and over
🩺 Adults aged 18 years and over with certain medical conditions that increase their risk.

The National Immunisation Program (NIP) has changed, with updated recommendations for the pneumococcal vaccine from 1 July 2026.

The new 21-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (Capvaxive®) replaces the previous vaccines for eligible adults.

You may now be eligible if you are:
✔ An adult aged 18 years or over with certain medical risk conditions
✔ An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adult aged 25 years or over
✔ An adult aged 65 years or over
