Following a hip or knee joint replacement, a growing number of our patients are spending two nights or less time in hospital. As part of St Vincent’s Bringing Care Home strategy, we are transforming care, allowing patients to spend more time doing the things that matter, rather than extended time in a hospital bed.

It has been proven that many patients report sleeping better at home, have a lower risk of hospital-acquired infections, a faster return to independence and normal routine and more family and carer involvement in their recovery when leaving hospital earlier.

You can read more about the Bringing Care Home strategy on our website here - https://www.svph.org.au/patient-news/care-at-home-joint-replacements

How beautiful are these handmade blankets! 💜💙

Thank you to Viola for her generous donation of crocheted blankets, beanies and wraps for our Special Care Nursery and Paediatrics and Maternity wards.

For a number of years, Viola has created these special items for our hospital. At 76 years young, she enjoys keeping her hands and mind active through crocheting. With several of her grandchildren having spent time in Special Care Nurseries, this is her way of giving back and supporting other local families.

Pictured are Maternity Nurse Unit Manager Mel, Ward Clerk Di, and Paediatrician Dr Leanne Browning with some of Viola's beautiful creations.

Today we celebrated the Feast Day of Mary Aikenhead - founder of the Sisters of Charity - and honoured the enduring legacy she and the early Sisters have left at St Vincent’s. 💙💜

To mark the occasion, our wonderful kitchen team prepared homemade pumpkin soup with bread rolls for staff and volunteers. The tradition of serving soup on Mary Aikenhead's Feast Day traces back to the charitable, hands-on work of the Sisters of Charity, who brought food and comfort to the sick and poor in their homes and communities.

Mary Aikenhead believed that caring for vulnerable people required more than words — it required loving, practical and unselfish action. Her vision continues to inspire the work we do every day at St Vincent's.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today, and to our kitchen team for helping us honour this special feast day.
