We’re heading back to the Hunter Disability Expo for 2026, and we can’t wait.

You’ll find the Recovery Station team at Booth 19, ready to connect, share and talk all things community allied health. And yes, there will be jellybeans! 😉

It’s always a great couple of days. Plenty of conversations and always plenty of laughs!

This year, we’re especially looking forward to hearing from James ‘Chappo’ Chapman, the Expo Ambassador.

World MS Day 🌍🫶 brings the global community together to raise awareness, share stories and support everyone affected by multiple sclerosis.

MS is a condition that affects the brain and spinal cord, impacting movement, thinking and everyday function in different ways for each person.

This year’s campaign, My MS Diagnosis, highlights the importance of early and accurate diagnosis and breaking down barriers through better awareness and support.

At Recovery Station, we work alongside people living with MS every day. Programs like MS Moves provide targeted exercise support to help manage symptoms, build strength and confidence, and reduce the impact of physical inactivity.

When Eleanor first started working with one of our teenage clients, showering felt like a big hurdle.

Losing track of time, forgetting steps, or overusing products made what should be a simple routine feel frustrating and inconsistent.

Fast forward, and things look very different:

💧 Showering every day

🧼 Using soap each time

🎶 Using playlists to help keep track of time

It’s a great reminder that the small, everyday routines matter. With the right support and strategies, they can become moments of independence, confidence and pride.

We’re really proud of the progress here, and of the thoughtful, creative way Eleanor has supported it. 💪

Let’s talk about falls.

April Falls Month is a reminder that staying safe often starts with a simple conversation.

Falls don’t just happen. There are usually early signs, and noticing them can make all the difference.

Things like:

➡️ Feeling unsteady

➡️ Holding onto furniture when moving around

➡️ Bruising or signs of a recent fall

➡️ Or changes in how someone is feeling or thinking

These moments can be easy to brush off. But they’re often the first signal that a little extra support could help. 🤔

Talking about falls isn’t about taking away independence. It’s about protecting it.

For us, prevention is a big part of how we support the people we work alongside every day. Not just responding when something happens, but noticing the small things early and putting the right support in place.

Because often, it’s those small conversations that help people stay safe, confident and steady on their feet.

Finding her voice this Parkinson’s Month. 🥹

April is a time to raise awareness of Parkinson’s and to reflect on the everyday moments that matter.

One of our clients has recently started working with Mel, one of our speech pathologists, using the SPEAK OUT!® program. It focuses on intentional voice use, especially when voice changes become part of living with Parkinson’s.

She had noticed her voice becoming softer and less consistent. Conversations were more tiring and, at times, frustrating.

In sessions, she’s been practising speaking with more intent. She shared that she’s starting to think about her voice differently and even uses that same sense of intent when getting up from her lounge chair. She said it makes her feel stronger.

Her goal is a special one. She wants to read books to her future grandchildren. 💚💙

“I might not be the Nanna running around,” she said, “but I want to stay connected through my voice.”

A reminder that sometimes, the small things are the big things.
