The average time from first symptoms to diagnosis for lipoedema is around ten years. That's right, TEN years!

And it is not because people are not seeking help. It is because lipoedema is routinely missed, misattributed to obesity, or dismissed entirely by clinicians who have not had the training to recognise it.

The symptoms do not respond to diet and exercise the way other conditions do. The swelling is bilateral and symmetrical in a very specific pattern. It is painful, often intensely so, but the skin looks normal. There is no simple blood test. And for a long time there were no widely adopted clinical guidelines.

That is starting to change. There is more awareness, more training, and more advocacy. But in the meantime, knowing what to look for and what to ask for matters. Swipe through to understand why lipoedema is so frequently missed and what you can do if you think this is what you are dealing with.

Compression garment prescription is one of those things that looks simple from the outside and is genuinely quite detailed when you get into it.

There are measurements to take, garment styles to match to the specific pattern of swelling, fabrics suited to different climates and activity levels, and a whole process of ordering, fitting, and follow-up that happens before anyone leaves the clinic with something that will actually work for them.

Our team does this every single day, and we will not rush it. Getting compression right is not a minor thing, it is central to long-term oedema management.
