Sometimes the shift from “What’s wrong with me?” to “What happened to me?” changes everything.
Because trauma can leave an imprint.
It can change how safe you feel in the world. How easily you trust. How quickly you react. How much you overthink. How comfortable you are depending on other people. How your body responds to situations your logical brain knows are safe.
And when we only look at those responses as symptoms, behaviours or things that need to be “fixed”, we can miss the story underneath them.
Something happened.
Your brain adapted.
Your nervous system learned.
And some of those adaptations may have helped you survive, cope or keep going at the time, even if they’re making life harder now.
That doesn’t mean every mental health difficulty is caused by trauma. It isn’t.
But when trauma is underneath what you’re experiencing, it deserves more than being labelled.
Because what do we do with injuries?
We treat them.
And trauma deserves treatment too.
