RHINO - Rural Health in the Northern Outback

RHINO - Rural Health in the Northern Outback With an ever increasing number of students and their growing interest in rural health, RHINO keeps expanding.

Rural Health In Northern Outback (RHINO) is the representative body for all students enrolled in a health degree

https://club-rhino-jcu.square.site/ RHINO is the official student rural health club of James Cook University across its three main campuses of Townsville, Cairns and Mackay within North Queensland. RHINO was founded in August 2000, with the aim to promote rural

health issues and opportunities within the health disciplines of the university – medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology and many more. RHINO provides many rewarding activities for its members that are both fun and educational. These include trips away to rural locations around Northern Queensland, guest speakers from around Australia and the world, skills nights, social events, conference attendance and heaps more! In 2009, RHINO extended to the Cairns campus of James Cook University and in 2013 RHINO extended to the Mackay campus. In 2016, CQU officially joined Club RHINO and we anticipate a bright future ahead for both university members!

RDAQ Conference 2026 WRAP🩺🤩✨
Over three days, our medical students had the privilege of representing JCU at the annual RDAQ Conference. With this year’s theme being stockyards and stethoscopes, the conference had a focus on agricultural medicine and the challenges of delivering care where resources are limited but expectations still remain high.

The conference allowed students to participate in pre-conference workshops, attend insightful educational sessions and learn more about the Rural Generalist Pathway. Our delegates also enjoyed a range of networking opportunities and social events which enabled a sense of connection and collaboration in the rural medical community. Students were able to build meaningful connections with rural doctors and other medical students who share a passion for rural medicine.

The conference concluded with the Gala Ball, and congratulations to Rachael Payne, who received the RDAQ Prize. You're dedication to healthcare is truly inspiring.

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers, who enabled the conference to run smoothly.

Thank you to RDAQ for another exceptional conference and we look forward to next year🤩

THANK YOU SO MUCH RHINOS!! Wow, doesn’t a month pass quickly?!

With your support, we have travelled a whopping total of 14, 703km during May. This means you have helped us raise $2940 for the , which will be funnelled towards helping Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons in Townsville, as well as funding programs to support disadvantaged youth, unemployed persons and their families within the community.

We seriously could not have achieved this without each and every one of your support! A massive thank you to ALL our fabulous sponsors: Annees, Baskin-Robbins, LSKD, Samba Bowl, Urban Climb, and NQRTH. 🫶

We really enjoyed seeing everyone at our BBQ breakfast events, following along on your Strava journeys and watching you hit those PBs! Congratulations to our overall prize winners for May (swipe on post!), including Alexi Cross for taking out the most total kilometers travelled during May (341.1km)!!🤩🏃
