It’s a question families often don’t think about until they’re making funeral arrangements - what happens to the jewellery they’re wearing?

The answer is largely up to you.

For a burial, jewellery can remain with your loved one if that’s what the family wishes. Wedding rings, necklaces, bracelets and other sentimental pieces can stay with them, or they can be removed and returned to the family as keepsakes.

For a cremation, jewellery can also remain with your loved one. However, items containing batteries, such as watches, need to be removed prior to cremation.

Some families choose to keep everything. Others might leave a wedding ring in place but keep a watch or another special piece to pass down through the family.

There’s no right or wrong choice - it comes down to what feels right for you and your loved one. 🤍

When a funeral service comes to an end, there can be a natural feeling that everyone needs to get up and head straight for the door.

But unless the service is being followed by a cortège to the cemetery, where we’ll guide everyone to leave in an orderly fashion and follow on, there really is no winner for who gets out the door first.

Take a moment.

You might want to walk up to the coffin, place your hand on it, leave a flower, say a few quiet words, give someone a hug or simply stand there and take it all in.

You’ve just said goodbye to someone incredibly important to you. You don’t need to rush that moment because you feel like everyone is waiting.

Take the time you need. We’ll give you the time. 🤍

There are no rules about who gets to tell their story.

A eulogy might be delivered by a partner, child, grandchild, sibling, lifelong friend, workmate, or several people who each knew a different side of the person being remembered.

And you don’t have to be a confident public speaker.

If you want to write something but don’t think you’ll be able to stand up and read it on the day, your celebrant can read your words on your behalf. You can even decide on the day, sometimes people surprise themselves and find the strength to speak, while others realise they’d rather simply sit, listen and remember.

Whether it’s a carefully written eulogy, a funny story, a few heartfelt sentences or simply “I loved them” - it all has a place.

Because a funeral isn’t about delivering the perfect speech. It’s about telling the story of a person who mattered. 🤍

For some families, being involved in dressing their loved one can be a very personal and meaningful final act of care.

You may want to help with their clothing, brush their hair, add their favourite jewellery or simply be present while they are being cared for.

For others, that’s something they would rather leave entirely in the hands of their funeral director, and that is completely okay too.

There’s no expectation either way. It’s simply about giving families the opportunity to be involved if it feels right for them.

Sometimes the smallest things carry the biggest meaning.

A handwritten letter. A drawing from the grandkids. A favourite photograph. Flowers from the garden. A special blanket or another little keepsake that reminds you of home.

Including personal items can be a beautiful way for family members, particularly children, to feel involved in saying goodbye and to leave something meaningful with someone they love.

What can be included may depend on the type cremation or burial being chosen, so if there’s something special you’d like to place with your loved one, speak with your funeral director.

We’ll always help you find a way to make their farewell feel personal, familiar and unmistakably theirs.

What Should They Wear? 🤍

When choosing clothing for your loved one, forget what you think they’re supposed to wear and think about what THEY would be happy to go in.

Their favourite sports team jersey and footy shorts? Absolutely.
Their favourite dress? Perfect.
Jeans and a nice shirt? Yep.
Pluggers? Why not!

Some families choose casual, comfortable clothing… And yes, we understand how funny it can sound talking about making someone “comfortable”, but sometimes knowing Mum, Dad, Pop or Nan is dressed in something they loved brings a little extra peace of mind.

Others choose something more formal or fashionable ~ a beautiful dress, suit, jewellery, favourite watch or their Sunday best.

Some families choose shoes, some don’t. There really is no right or wrong answer.

The most important thing is that when you see them, you think, “Yep. That’s them.”

And one little reminder from your funeral directors…

Don’t forget their jocks and socks! 😉

Choosing pallbearers can be a meaningful part of planning a funeral, but there are no rules about who that role should belong to.

Family members, friends, children, grandchildren, men or women can all be pallbearers. Often, families choose people who shared a particularly special relationship with their loved one.

And if carrying the coffin feels too difficult? That’s okay too. Our funeral team can assist, or family members can simply walk alongside the coffin as it makes its final journey.

For some, being a pallbearer is a final act of love, one last opportunity to accompany someone who meant so much.
