What a fantastic achievement for the team at Woollam Constructions! 🏆

We’re delighted to see The Good Shepherd Home – Grevillea Alterations & Additions in Annandale recognised as the winner of the 2026 Master Builders Queensland North Queensland Award for Queensland Community Accommodation.

This is a wonderful acknowledgement of the craftsmanship, collaboration and hard work that Woollam, their consultants and contract partners have put into our Grevillea project.
We’re incredibly proud of the building and, most importantly, what it will provide for our residents and the future of The Good Shepherd Home.

🏆🎉 WE CAME, WE PLAYED, WE CONQUERED! 🎉🏆

What a fantastic day at the Grey Matters Olympics held today at the Murray Sporting Complex, where eight residential aged care homes went head-to-head in a series of fun, friendly, and fiercely competitive events!

Our champions tackled crowd favourites including:
🏓 Ping Pong Basketball
👱 Barbie Sprint
🎯 Nerf Shooting Range
🏹 Bean Bag Archery

And what can we say... The Good Shepherd Home absolutely cleaned up! 😎👏

🥉 Rosina secured 3rd Place in the Nerf Shooting Range
🥉 Hermione raced to 3rd Place in the Barbie Sprint
🥈 George claimed 2nd Place in Bean Bag Archery
⭐ John was awarded the coveted MVP (Most Valuable Player) title!

And the biggest achievement of all...

A huge congratulations to all our residents who represented the Home with enthusiasm, determination, sportsmanship, and plenty of laughter. You made us incredibly proud and showed everyone that age is no barrier to having fun and embracing a challenge!

💙 We are incredibly grateful to have been part of the Postcard Puzzle Project alongside Volunteering North Queensland and Kirwan State High School.

Over the past two months, our residents eagerly looked forward to receiving their weekly postcards and letters, forming meaningful connections with the students through shared stories, laughter and friendship. What began as a simple exchange of correspondence blossomed into genuine relationships that brought joy to both generations.

The highlight of the project was welcoming the students to The Good Shepherd Home, where they met their pen pals in person and enjoyed a lovely morning tea together. It was heartwarming to see conversations flow so naturally as residents and students shared memories, learned from one another and completed their puzzle journey side by side.

Programs such as the Postcard Puzzle Project remind us of the powerful impact that connection, kindness and volunteering can have on our community. We are proud to support initiatives that reduce social isolation, foster intergenerational relationships and inspire future health care professionals.

Thank you to Volunteering North Queensland, Kirwan State High School, the students, our residents and everyone involved in making this pilot program such a memorable success. We look forward to welcoming future participants and creating many more special connections in the months ahead.

A huge thank you to Billabong Sanctuary for helping make Cliff's 99th birthday one to remember! 🎉🎂

After seeing the wonderful community response to Cliff's birthday, the team from Billabong Sanctuary kindly visited The Good Shepherd Home with some very special guests—Tirari the bearded dragon and Sylva the carpet python.

The visit brought plenty of smiles, laughter and excitement to Cliff and some of our residents, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.

Thank you, Billabong Sanctuary, for your generosity and for helping us celebrate this incredible milestone.

🩵 National Pyjama Day at The Good Shepherd Home 🩵

Today our residents and staff swapped their usual attire for their favourite pyjamas to celebrate National Pyjama Day, an initiative of The Pyjama Foundation that raises awareness and support for children living in foster care.

The day was filled with smiles, laughter and plenty of cosy fun, with everyone embracing the opportunity to wear their favourite PJs for a great cause. As part of the celebration, residents, staff and visitors also generously donated children's books, helping to support young people through the Foundation's Love of Learning Program, which provides mentoring and learning support to children in care.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who dressed up, donated books and supported this wonderful initiative. Your kindness will help make a positive difference in the lives of children who need it most.

Over the past five years, this collaboration has helped deliver more than 3,000 frailty and exercise services to our residents, while providing invaluable hands-on experience for the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Celebrating NAIDOC Week ❤️🖤💛

Throughout NAIDOC Week, our residents enjoyed a range of meaningful activities celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, connection, and community.

We were honoured to welcome Aunty Ro from Dajiway Arts, who shared stories, sang with our residents, and created a warm and engaging atmosphere. While we had originally planned to weave baskets, we decided to make beautiful necklaces instead, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. The connections formed during the visit were truly special, with many residents inviting Aunty Ro to return.

At the end of her visit, Aunty Ro shared that she felt incredibly honoured to spend time with us. She said she felt a sense of calm as soon as she walked into our hall and was made to feel so welcomed by everyone.

As part of our celebrations, residents also gathered to enjoy cultural music, learn more about Aboriginal culture through stories and discussions, and reflect on the knowledge Aunty Ro had shared.

We also had the opportunity to make traditional fried scones, known as Puftaloons, using flour, milk, and salt, before topping them with golden syrup. They were a delicious treat and a wonderful way to experience another aspect of Aboriginal culture.

The feedback from our residents throughout the week has been overwhelmingly positive. We are grateful to have shared these meaningful experiences together and to celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

What a fantastic morning of fun, laughter and friendly competition at the Home!

We were thrilled to welcome Star 106.3 Townsville Adam and Donny, who challenged our very own resident, Ray, to a mobility scooter race.

Our residents came out in force to support Ray, proudly wearing their Scooter Crew shirts, waving pom-poms, cheering from the sidelines and sharing plenty of smiles and laughter. The atmosphere was electric!

Adam and Donny gave it their best shot, but this time Ray proved too good, racing to victory and making everyone at the Home proud.

A big thank you to the team at Star FM for visiting and bringing so much fun and excitement to our residents. We always enjoy having you at the Home and appreciate the wonderful memories you help create. We can't wait to welcome you back again soon!

Handmade with Love ❤️

We were delighted to welcome Kay and Liz from Carlyle Gardens recently, who visited our Home bearing some beautiful handmade gifts for our residents.

Their generous donation included patchwork blankets, knitted gloves, and adorable cuddle bears, all lovingly made by members of their group. They are also currently working on busy mats and other handmade items that will bring comfort and enjoyment to many people.

This wonderful group dedicates countless hours to creating handcrafted items that are distributed throughout the community, including to patients at the Townsville Hospital.
We are incredibly grateful for their kindness, generosity, and the care that goes into every stitch. The time and effort they put into making these beautiful gifts truly make a difference and bring joy to so many.

Thank you, Kay, Liz, and everyone involved in this amazing community group. Your generosity and compassion are inspiring. 💙
