To our wonderful families,

I just wanted to check in and say a brief hello and that I hope each and everyone of you are well.

My journey has been a little harder as you can probably tell, with one step forward and what seems like several back at times. I hope to be back before too long.

As I said in an email prior, if anyone wishes to change service providers this is totally your call, I understand I have been gone for so long and children’s den families need consistency, something I can’t provide right now. There will be no hard feelings although I will miss you I understand. You just need to let us know
Massive shout out to Allanah for running things in my absence.

Again I’m sorry.

I hope to be back before too long.

All my very best

Rachael

💛💛

Many of you know I have had some significant health challenges earlier in the year.

It is with a broken heart that I let everyone know that these issues have returned and I need to take leave again to seek ongoing treatment.

I am hoping this stint will only be for couple of weeks.

I wish more than anything that I was planning an awesome feeding session or putting together a new toy instead of writing this post.

I understand children, especially those seeking early intervention need consistency, so I have asked Allanah to put together a list of local paediatric OT providers if anyone would prefer this option. I completely understand if you decide this is what is best for you and your child 💛. Please reach out to her if you would like this list.

My last day before leave will be Friday, 29th May. I will get all outstanding reports and letters completed by then.

Thank you all for understanding. I hope before too long I will be back again and ready to keep doing what I love ❤️

💙💙Hello again,

It is with a heavy heart that I let all valued families, referrers and followers know that FUNction will be closed until the end of April at this stage.

I have been dealing with some significant health issues and unfortunately they are taking much longer to manage than I ( and my doctors) anticipated.

When a family chooses me to be their child’s therapist and advocate, I strive to give that child the absolute best of me because I truly enjoy my job.

To be a great paediatric OT, you really have to love working with not only children, but their families and schools
as well. I take pride in how I run my small (but very busy) clinic because I want it to be a safe, nurturing place for kids to be themselves.

Lately, I have not been able to do this and put simply, you and your child deserve the best version of me.

So, I have decided the best way for me to do that is to give myself some more time to recover.

Allanah is in the process of getting ready for my return and organising the diary/ school visits, so please reach out if there’s anything we can do to asssit you.

I can’t wait to be back 💙💛

📣To our valued clients and families 📣,

I wanted to let you know that FUNction will be closed for the next few weeks with the view of being back in action by March.

I sincerely apologise for the disruption this is likely to cause. I know families have probably spent time arranging their calendars and work /school schedules to fit in with me and for this I am sorry.

Please direct any calls, emails or urgent matters to Allanah who can asssit you.

I hope to see all my families again very soon and once again, I apologise for any disruption this has caused.

2026 has well and truly started so I thought this was a good time to re-introduce myself.

I’m Rachael, the ‘face’ behind FUNction.

I started this business nearly 10 years ago. I’ve been a paediatric occupational therapist for 16 years and I hope to be able to do this job for many, many more!

I’m most passionate about helping children with eating/ food challenges and busting meal time and feeding development myths. I also love working with babies and toddlers 💙💛

Before I started FUNction, I was working in Manchester, UK and James Cook University, teaching 3rd and 4th year OT students, but this job has definitely been the most rewarding, stressful yet fulfilling.

My special interest areas include:

💛Picky eating and meal time management
💙Early intervention
💛Autism diagnostic assessment
💙Paediatric sleep/ sleep disordered breathing

I have a handful of ongoing therapy spots before I am at capacity, so please make contact if you’re interested in seeing how I might be able to help you and your child in 2026.

We didn’t have any money to put towards marketing so we got creative with an old camera and forced my niece to participate…. Luckily she likes to perform!

I still don’t have a marketing budget, I just try to do what I do well, every day 💛💙

We are back tomorrow and can’t wait to play! 💙💛

We are now closed for 2025 💙💛

We would like to thank all our wonderful families for your ongoing support.

I worked out that I delivered over 1100 therapy sessions this year… that means that I had the privilege of over 1100 opportunities to be part of your child’s story. What a gift.. 💝

I’ll be back in the office on Monday, January 12th and look forward to seeing everyone then!

“Big enough to notice, small enough to accept.”

This is the mantra you want to use when making small changes your child’s preferred foods. Making small adjustments helps children learn to accept and enjoy new foods over time.

This kid’s goal food is pasta 🍝 as this is a meal regularly served and enjoyed in their family.

Today, we added a few squirts of sauce and mixed to see what would happen! Using novel items such as the syringe here can also engage your child’s curiosity and take some of the pressure off the fact that we are changing something.
