First year speech pathology students had a great time today exploring their sensory superpowers! JCU Occupational Therapy lecturer, Annika, facilitated a fun session focused on sensory processing. Students engaged with activities related to senses such as visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, tactile, and vestibular, and also developed their own sensory profile. 👃😝⚖️👂👁️

To celebrate JCU Speech Pathology alumni and highlight diverse careers, we will be regularly showcasing a 'JCU Speech Pathology Alumni in Focus'.

Our next alum in focus is Natasha Barlow. Natasha graduated in 2017 and has had a diverse career including working at an Indigenous Health Service in Cairns, and now working exclusively with neurodiverse clients. She has some great advice for students and new graduates. Thank you Natasha😀

Hello NQSPG members,

James Cook University will be seeking one to two casual Practice Educators (PEs) for Trimester 3, and I wanted to see whether any of you might be interested in filling this role.

The trimester runs from 14 September to 27 November. The casual PE role would commence one week prior to the start of trimester to allow time for preparation and familiarisation with the clinic and would conclude one week after the end of trimester to complete finalisation activities.

The student clinic itself runs for half a day each week. However, Practice Educators are paid for a full day each week to recognise the additional time required for clinic preparation, student feedback, documentation, and other clinic-related administrative tasks.

If you are interested in being considered for a casual Practice Educator role, please email me at [email protected]

I'd be happy to provide further information and answer any questions you may have.
