QNMU Life Membership for QNMU legend Professor Aunty Gracelyn Smallwood! 🩷🌟

Aunty Gracelyn Smallwood has dedicated her career to advancing the health and human rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

One of the first Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to qualify in general, midwifery and psychiatric nursing, she helped establish the Townsville Aboriginal and Islander Health Service, where she became its first Registered Nurse and Midwife, while championing culturally safe health care and the elimination of racism.

Her incredible contribution is also recognised through one of our QNMU Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards, the Aunty Dulcie Flower & Aunty Gracelyn Smallwood Award for First Nations members 🏆

Congratulations Aunty Gracelyn, and thank you for everything you have done for our members, our professions and our communities.

💙👖 Jeans for Genes Day 👖💙

Today our team swapped our usual work attire for denim to support Jeans for Genes Day and help raise awareness for children living with genetic conditions.

Every donation helps fund vital research, support families, and improve the lives of children impacted by rare genetic disorders.

We’re proud to come together as a team to support such an important cause.

Our children are our legacy. Our culture grows stronger every time we share our stories, traditions, and connection to Country with the next generation.

Yesterday, we celebrated them: the future, our childrens. Seeing so many smiles, dances, and happy faces while the kids learned more about culture made it a day to remember.

Our special guest, Normey Jay was absolutely incredible. He brought great music, lots of dancing, and meaningful messages that made the day so much fun. The little ones absolutely loved it!

A special thank you to the TAIHS deadly team who worked hard behind the scenes to make this day possible. It was truly beautiful to see it all come together.
