Check out this video demonstrating the assessment and treatment of BPPV.
The first movement-the Dix-Hallpike test-is used to identify which side is causing the vertigo and help confirm a diagnosis of BPPV. This position is typically held for around 30 seconds while we monitor for symptoms and look for nystagmus (involuntary eye movements), which can provide important diagnostic information.
Once we know the affected side, we move straight into the Epley manoeuvre. Similar to the assessment, each position is held for approximately 30 seconds before progressing to the next. The Epley uses a series of specific head and body positions to guide the inner ear crystals back into place, helping reduce or resolve symptoms of dizziness.
Assessment → diagnosis → treatment, often all in the same session.
If your dizziness is triggered by rolling in bed, looking up, or bending over, it may be worth getting checked.
