Kiwi fruit is high on my daily eat list for many reasons.

They are rich in beneficial fibre that promotes regular bowel movement if you’re constipated or your digestives have slowed down. They’re also rich in Vitamin C and potassium and provide Magnesium and calcium.

But it’s more what they’re feeding on the inside of your gut that’s most interesting and you’ll be hearing more about Akkermansia I’m sure. As more research is conducted on cornerstone bacteria and their role in the gut microbiome and general health.

Akkermansia muciniphila is a gut bacterium that reinforces the gut lining, reduces inflammation , promotes metabolic health and encourages weight loss.

It’s a key bacteria that when in low numbers presents mostly as systemic inflammation in the body, especially gut dysbiosis. Kiwifruit, especially the gold variety helps promote the growth of this particular bacteria.

So be good to your guts and add kiwi fruit to your shopping list. They taste so good right now. And eat the skin, well at least some of it, that’s the best bit for the akkermansia 💚

By the end of this month I’ll be operating from a new clinic space in Launnie CBD 💚💚

I can’t wait to see my clients in person again after a hiatus from utilizing a business space.

I’ve got new stock arriving daily, flyers ready to go and working on the behind scenes planning so on open day it’s all ready to welcome you in 🙌

A day in the forest 💚👌🏻

Yesterday was a perfect winters day for a stroll.

We walked the Warners track in central Tas, a hard 7000 steep steps up to the plateau then a shrubby scramble to Adam’s peak.

Weather was perfect as were the views 👌🏻

Very excited to announce….

Finally a new space to call MTK Clinic home 💚

Think over the past 12 months hubby and I have looked at every available space in Launnie CBD so I could move away from the kitchen table telehealth consults, I had just about given up hope and then the perfect space became available.

Watch me grow a new clinic space and get back to what I love, seeing all my clients in person and talking food and health!

A teenager has a daily need for 1300mg calcium

We all know calcium is a major structural component of teeth and bone but it also plays a role in mediating blood vessels constriction and relaxation, muscle and nerve impulses and secretion of hormones.

I Find these mozzarella sticks an easy win as a parent, great ingredient list and 1 stick boasts 125mg calcium and 5gm protein! An easy grab and go snack. I know it’s excess plastic but if you have teens you’ll know you’ve had to make compromises 😜

Other good sources of calcium are: dairy products, almonds, sunflower seeds, sardines, anchovies (good luck with this one) licorice, cabbage, shellfish, tahini, figs, eggs, parsley.

Work day lunch!

Bone broth with crackers, cheese and carrot and a seedy bite and kiwi to finish.

Not looking like enough protein for those savvy macro calculators out there??

No worries, this one’s for fibre + hydration 💚 and at near 20gm protein it’s quite sufficient for me for a mid meal and my protein is spread out more over the full day. I don’t chase numbers but I sure do chase the nutrients!

Staying hydrated in winter can be hard but it is so important for everyday bodily functions.

If you’re only liquid is coffee….. try mixing things up. Some of my fave swaps are roasted dandelion (good for digestion) chai (warm and spicy), hot choc collagen, herbal teas licorice and peppermint are my picks! And of course green tea (still caffeine but less) or a warm mug of bone broth (probiotics and protein).

Other ideas can be slightly warming your water to make it more drinkable for winter sipping or adding in some fresh slices of ginger and lemon, yummo!

What’s your fave?

Stocking Broth & Co | IQ.Nutrition 💚

The bone broth paste is creamy and so incredibly tasty and the dried powder is a dream to work with in the kitchen.

Bone Broth has always been a core part of my treatment recommendations with clients and a daily for me and my family. Mostly we use it in our meals but this time of year I love a warm cup of broth during the day.

I’ve chosen to stock Broth & co because of their fantastic ethics around their products. Aussie made, FODMAP friendly, paleo, nothing extra and a load of taste!

If you think this is a brownie boysenberry ice cream cake, you’d be 100% correct 👌🏻

I don’t always have time to make a full glam cake for birthdays but I still love a homemade cake to honour the moment. And all my fam are ice cream mad.

This was easy peasy. I made 2 slabs of Gluten free brownie mix in a tray larger than you’d normally use so it was about 1cm deep. Let them cool then cut a circle out of each to fit a spring cake tin. Drop the first brownie circle In then add 1litre of your fave ice cream that’s been left out to soften enough to scoop and level into the tin, add your brownie top, cover in cling wrap and pop back In The freezer.

Take out 20mins before you wish to serve and be sure to hide the leftovers, your family might race to get the rest 😆

And yes this is not an everyday food!
